I think I recall reading somewhere on the net a while back that early wings (I think 58 & 59) where flat sheet aluminum and that subsequent years there was a patterned horizontal crease line in the aluminum sheet. I can't find that source now.
Looking for verification or debunking - what is correct for a 59?

Yes, thanks, I think that was the page of the info I recalled. It says 58-60 are flat.
Does that page belong to a member here? The page doesn't indicate the source of the data, just looking to verify...

distant - how confident are you that your wings are original? That calls into question when the change occured.
Anyone with an original wings on a 58 or 59 care to chime in?

The old wings on my 66 compact had creased wings when they were on it. they were removed by the PO as they were in bad shape. I am making new ones to put back on .

Sorry Bow_Tied...no help here, my '59 Airflyte had lost her wings before I adopted her. I can verify my '61 has creased wings, but I don't know how anyone can insure the wings on their 50 year old camper are guaranteed to be the originals...of course, conversely...how can they guarantee they have replacements unless they made the ones on their Shasta and installed them personally...Wish some Member could stop by Elkhart and see just how in-depth their research documents are on true Shasta History. Everything I read on the Net starts off, I have gathered this informaton from various sources...no one says...this information is being reproduced from records kept by Shasta Industries and additional documentation maintained at the Research Facility at the RV Hall of Fame.

My 59 has the creases in the wings and as rotted as they were I think they were original. I am the third owner and I am pretty sure that the second owner didn't replace them.
Not that that necessarily means anything, I think most Shastas were built on holidays and Fridays. ;D It seems like the builders just used what was at hand sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I lover her, but it is a labor of love.

This is a pretty old post, but I have only had my '59 Airflyte for a month. The wings look original to me and are creased. I'm going to post a pic on the thread about polishing. They're not perfect but they're shinin' up nice.

Distant 75, what model is your 60? I purchased a 1960 shasta a couple weeks ago and don't know the model. It looks identical to yours. I cannot post pics yet as I have not got it home, it is still at a relatives that picked it up for me. The title states body style 16/A7. I would love to know the style. Thanks for any info.

I read the same info about the early wings. It was on Yahoo Vintage Shasta Club. I was told :
I don't have direct experience with the early ('59-'60) wings that had
the wood core. I've seen them with the 1" creased lines, but I
haven't seen them smooth. That doesn't mean that they weren't built
that way. I think the early wings were built by each factory, so
probably have some style differences. The '60-'63 and later wings were
probably built at one location then shipped out to factories (because
of their more complex all-aluminum design) so they became more
standardized.
If you find a set of early wood-core wings that have smooth aluminum
skin, I'd suspect that they are rebuilt or perhaps reproductions.

I have a 59 airflyte and mine are the wooden core with creased lines. I know they are orignal because I'm the second owner and the wings havent been touched.
