Couch and cabinets are in pretty good shape. I noticed a slide out cutting board in the kitchen and I laughed when I found a wooden ironing board in the closet that slides into the cutting board opening in the kitchen cabinets. Attachments:

And the bathroom, someone removed the orignal toilet and left this new porta potty. Eventually I plan to install a shower and toilet. Attachments:

Thanks for sharing the photos. It looks like a great find, and I'm sure you will enjoy working on it to truly make it your own. That ironing board applicaation is pretty clever. First I have heard that mentioned.

Love your pictures! I'm drooling over you "in floor gas heater."
My daughter just said "A Shasta-saurus followed you home!"
We're happy for you. Betsy

Thank you all.
Daisy the Bronco did well pulling it, but overheated once on a long steep hill.
We bought a 12" extension and I still can't make sharp turns or the bunk would make contact. I'm going to get an estimate to lenghten the tongue on the trailer, since this seems to be a common issue with these I don't think it would hurt the value.
I had a electrical wiring issue that I fixed yesterday so we should be able to use it this weekend, but I have to replace the fridge today, do some cleaning, and replace the bunk window.
"Shasta-saurus," I like it. We are trying to decide on a name, and that is in the running, so we might have to borrow it!
Future Plans:
Remove the current waste tank and install a shower/toilet pan with built in tank. I have to find 2" or trim it down to make it work. The original floor is raised about 6" in the bathroom. I'm plan to drop the floor in the bathroom some even if it means modifying the frame. I'm 6'3" and barely fit sitting down. We are going to install a seperate gray water tank also.
I really want to go LED with the lights. Supposedly they don't attract bugs. I'm going to have to test that. I think I would just buy the LED bulbs for the AC fixtures instead of rewire.

I'm looking at an Astrodome right now. You may have pushed me over the edge so that I'll soon have something following me home!! Have fun with your new trailer!

Your Bronco looks "lifted". I suppose you could also try lowering it to original. Though those things do look pretty cool lifted (;

Carolann, some of us just need a gentle nudge. Keep us posted on the search. Daisy, You have good eyes. Yes its lifted just a little. I bought it like that and have really enjoyed it. We are lucky enough to have some National Parks where we go camping that have trails that are just rough enough to make it fun, but mostly I just cruise to work and back. I think its just right any taller and it might look alittle redneck, not that its a bad thing, I am from the south.

had to laugh when you said you lost the vent cover on the way home. Mine did the same thing! I cought a glimpse of it shattering on the highway. The trailer extension has been a topic here for astrodome owners. Tom has set up a 24" inch extension and tows with a full sized van . (same as I will do) im wainting for pics of his rig. it seems to be a cheaper solution than modifying the trailer.
I had to repair my cab over bunk from previous contact with the original tow vehicle. can only imagine what that was... anyway she's a beauty! Named ours "Leola" after Leola PA. where she was built.

awesome find and you're close enough to me, in marietta, for me to see some of your restoration! though i could get in trouble doing that as i may decide i need a 2nd trailer, a bigger trailer! don't think hubby is ready to hear that as we've only had ours 3 weeks. dang, this shasta bug is virulent. signed: mrs compact

Thought I would post an update and newer photo. I worked late nights to get it ready for the McKinney Campground trip, last year, and have not had any more time to work on it. This is a photo from that trip. I managed to get the cooktop, electrical, and city water, and black water tank and drain working. I resealed the roof but still need to address the minor damage around the roof vent from the leak. I removed the old tile flooring and sealed the subfloor and then put down carpet tiles till I can get around to putting vinyl that looks like hardwoods. Trailer towing lights were working but the clearance lights went out. We haven't been camping since the McKinney trip. We are planning a trip for July and if that goes well maybe some weekend trips to the mountains. We have a few other things keeping us busy these days. Our little guy turned 1 year old today and #2 is in the oven. Due September 14th. Doc says its a girl! I think Daddy is getting a shotgun for father's day! I'm currently building a 12'x25' deck and after that a 3-car garage that the Astrodome can fit it. Then I can really tear into it. On a sad note, I called the PO, Charlie, and found out he had passed away. He was an older gentleman, mid 80's, and was a lot of fun to talk with and never have thought he was that old. I'll try to post more soon. Attachments:

Gotta love an Astrodome! Congrats on all your babies, human, Shasta and otherwise. Sad to hear about Charlie, but at least his Shasta baby is in good hands.

I made my own extension, It is 3 feet long, that goes into the Hitch, got Her in 1980 and started Pulling Her with a 1978 Datsun, then a 2.6 L. Dodge Ram Then a 1990 F150 six/ all of my earlier trucks had camper shells on them. Never had a problem with the extension. I live in Calif. by the Oregon Boarder, I have to climb Hills and Mountains all the time !!! Were headed out Thursday, and now have a 2004 Chevy Northwest Special Addition . Going to try to pull without the extension for the first time, No camper shell on the Chevy.

Bearhunter, will you send a pic of the extension? I'm thinking of getting a smaller tow vehicle. If I don't go with a truck then I will have a problem.

Dragonfly: I took a piece of square tubbing 6 inches long the same size as my receiver, and used it as coupler / took hitch and stuck it half way in, then bought same size square tubing and stuck it in the other end, and wire feed welded it/ then stuck it in my receiver and marked were to drill holes for the pin./ In the phone book in your area you can find metal/ and any muffler shop can weld it for you/ of course safety chain and trailer wiring have to be extended to !!

Harbor Freight and Northern Tools sell extensions. Habit Freight is cheaper.
There should be more info in the towing section also.
