I'd like to restore the original Bargman Trail-Lite 98's on our '66 Compact. The backing plate is still there, but the lenses have been replaced.
I'm not sure what the lens is supposed to screw into, as the posts on the backing plates are empty. Does anybody have any photos they've taken during a restoration of a 99 or 98 light?
Thanks, Ian

Are you looking for just pictures of the backing plates? You can see some pictures on my blog... 1964shastalouise.blogspot.com/2009/09/baby-steps.htmlThe insides of the posts should have threads. There isn't much there but they are threaded all the same. Any rust from reaction from the steel screws will have eaten that part of the plate away. Long enough screws should be able to pass through the posts and into the skin of the trailer. Hope this helps a bit. Brian

Interesting. The original backing plates on my '61 didn't have any posts, just elongated holes where the screw for the lense went straight through into the siding and wood underneath.

Thanks Brian, I'll double check the posts again. Maybe I'll glue a nut in the post, I have enough holes in the skin as it is, the replacement lenses were just screwed into the skin.
