Stock door handle on '66 Compact?

Hi gang,

Our recently acquired compact has a house doorknob where the original door latch should be.

Does anybody know what type of lockset was originally installed on the compacts?

Or alternatively, what will fit?

I'd love to pick up a used or rebuild doorlatch set to replace the ugly knob and padlock currently keeping the door closed.

I ordered a new outside handle and inside latch for my 69 compact from Vintage Trailer Supply. www.vintagetrailersupply.com
The outside is an "L" handle and the inside latch is called a canned ham door latch. The latch bolts to the inside of the door and the 'L" on the ourside and has a square shaft that comes through the door and slides into the latch. Check their web site out and look under tab for windows and doors and then look for entrance doors and you will see latches. Hope this helps.

I bought a new door latch from VTS too for my 64 Compact. Works perfectly and love having keys to lock her up when needed.

DOH! We just ordered a bunch of stuff from VTS, new wheels, rear lights, etc. Didn't even see those.

Guess I'm putting in another order!
