I'm reading up on DMV rules in California regarding trailers, and the "Permanent Trailer ID" (PTI) designation seems like the way to go, only requiring a 5 year renewal, no title, etc.
To be registered as a PTI "camp trailer", the trailer must "not exceed 16 ft in length". That's measured from the very back of the trailer to the very front tip of the hitch.
So my question is this: Is the typical 58-64 Airflyte over 16ft from the back of the trailer to the front of the hitch?
I know the Airflytes are advertised as 16ft, but I'm hoping they are not over 16ft by even a small amount.

So are they are exactly 16ft? I think anything over 16ft will disqualify the trailer for the cheaper PTI registration...

Hi Rob, Welcome to the group. Our '63 16 SCS was issued a PTI tag when we registered it. I think that it's built on the same chassis as as Airflyte, or at least one of the same length. If it's over 16ft, it's by not enough for DMV to care about. And the renewal every 5 years is only a $10 fee to cover the admin costs of keeping it on the books. Can't beat that. Mark

Thanks for the reply, Mark! The PTI/non-PTI deal makes a huge difference in $$$ over several years...
Now I just have to get my wife interested in getting one of these old things!

Hi Rob There are at least of a few of us in the Bay Area. Joe K and I are both in Oakland. I think there are like a few others. I at least would be happy to convince your wife that it's too much fun! Maybe we could have a little mini rally at one of the regional parks one weekend.
