I thought it would be good to have a thread devoted to our friend wood rot.
I know there are more than one person thinking about just leaving their trailer just as they bought it and not looking into issues with associated with rot. I think that many of us that have delved into those issues are glad we did and would do it again. An illustrated thread showcasing what can lurk on past the paneling and skin might get those interested in doing a little investigation.
Soooo.... let see your pictures of wood rot. Rot in you framing. Rot in your floor. Rot in the door. Rot anywhere where rot happens. This IS in the framing section but any hidden rot is appropriate in this thread.
As a reminder... let's not make this a talky thread about rot and how to get rid of it and that sort of thing. This is just a running gallery of wood rot.
LET'S SEE YOUR ROT!

I'll start buy showing our door. This door was supposedly rebuilt at some point so you can see how fast rot works... Attachments:

Oooh I have rot galore in the Forester ... will post pictures tomorrow (thunder/lightning so getting ready to shut down). However, hubby has gallantly decided to replace the rotted framing so I will be rot-free eventually. The LoFlyte is being left as-is. Not gonna mess with what I don't know about.

We bought our '64 Airflyte knowing it had a leaky roof vent. This is what we found when we cut away the ceiling... Attachments:

Streetside lower rear-end. Yikes! And all I wanted to do was reattach the skin on the bottom when I felt the sickening wet wood. Attachments:

In the beginning I thought this would be fun. Then reality sets in when you discover how much to do. LOL From there it's to late to stop now, just jump in and go. No regrets! NowI know it's solid. Attachments:

Those of us that purchase 50-60 year old vintage campers with wood frames GOT ROT...2 of my 5 campers do not have rot...because one is steel shelled and one is all aluminum...we are preservationists whether we leave em the way they are and enjoy what's left or if we try and fix the rot. This is a very good thread because it illustrates with pics where we can expect to uncover what time, weather and yes neglect by POs have done to these classics. My hat is off to every Member who has shared pics so far. It indicates that you are taking the time and are willing to invest in removing the rot and thus preserving that camper...spoke to a guy about 2 campers he had for sale 900 miles from my home...during the conversation he mentioned "these are the last 2 left"...I asked how many did you have to start with...he said it had taken him and his dad over 2 years to get the rest to the salvage yard...how many of them were lost forever just because they had rot!

We just bought this a couple of weeks ago and I started with what appeared to be the worst water damaged area. It actually wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but still a lot of rot. Attachments:
