I have a 69 Compact that I just recovered. How many jacks should I be using? 2,4? I have seen the retro old style jacks, but would it be cheaper to just use some old car jacks instead? Would they be as stable? Thanks for the feedback.

Not sure about the old car jacks but we use 4 jacks total. One on each corner to stabilize.

Look under this same category at "BAL STABILIZER IDEA" and scroll down. I used 4 Honda junk yard jacks om my compact and bolted them to the frame. Work Great.

You don't want to use car jacks because you won't be able to tighten them up or level the camper. You'll want to use stabilizer jacks. They're not very expensive. I think I paid under $30 for a set of 4 on Amazon.

Is my 69 compact too high?? The axle hasn't been flipped but it is sporting 15" wheels. I bought the stabilizer jacks but they didn't reach the axle, even when completely extended. Makes me think there is a problem somewhere... I even got some honda jacks from a junkyard after I read Brent's post and those weren't high enough either. Hm.... maybe I need smaller wheels.

your wheels should be 14". you can use car jack stands (safety jacks with locking pins) but i would not use car jacks. my '73 sprite has incorporated stabilizers. sadly...my lil shasta doesn't. i'll be seeking proper stabilizers as i like to take my rides back to as close as original as possible (with the exception of some creature comforts and lighting).
