While strolling through Tin Can Tourists saw this in an ad: Anyone ever done this? Is this how it's supposed to be stored? I do get tired of my spare squeaking beside the cooler in the back of my SUV. It also looks like a great solution to those of us with legs too short to touch the floor.....

LOL! I had to giggle when I saw this. Yeah, I suppose it would work and make a nice foot rest too. We don't have the round tubular table leg like that in either of ours so it wouldn't work in our case. Our table leg isn't in the center either, it's more out towards the edge of the table and made of wood in a flat shape.
I too get tired of the spare taking up room in the back of the tow vehicle. But no where else to put it at the moment.

I got something in the works for a super cool spare tire setup, but it is top Secret.

I would be concerned that in the case of a sudden stop, the spare would slide forward damaging the table and/or leg. The one pictured has a mount for the table leg in the floor, therefore it would be more stable and secure than the folding table leg configuration such as mine and many others.

Interesting (especially for those of us who are vertically challenged), but ours is mounted on the passenger side of the rear bumper.

I'm tired of lugging my spare tire around. It's extra weight and it's in the way most of the time. So I'm going to try my new prototype "Spare Step" this weekend. It's a tire, it's a step, it's two useful camper accessories in one! Hopefully, it won't throw me or anybody else. The plywood top is bolted through the rim, so it shouldn't move. We'll see. I'm working on a top secret Continental spare too. On the tire cover I'm going to attach the chrome shasta logo.

We're still going to carry it in the back of the truck. Once we get to where we're going, then it'll become the front step. It's days of laying around not doing anything are over.

I love that creativity. Necessity is the mother of all inventions and in our little trailers dual duty is a necessity! On a side note...I wondered why carry a spare? For my car I just keep a can of fix-a-flat, wouldn't that work for the trailer too?

That stuff however wouldn't likely fix a sidewall blowout or major puncture/shear >1/4". It'll cover you for 85% of flats though. This is exactly what many new cars are coming with instead of a spare.

Here is my solution to getting the spare out of the bed of my truck. I made it swing out and tilt. Attachments:

Some things just make you scratch your head and say "day-yum..."
That is the coolest.

I'm guessing it's under the dinette, but all I see is an exterior side shot... Am I missing something?

I'm not getting it either. Where's the spare?

I recently saw a picture of a set up I hadn't seen before. The LP tanks were spread to the outside of the frame rails and the spare was in the middle.
I think I will put a removable mount on the rear bumper for a truck toolbox someday so I want the rear bumper clear.

This thread is ancient...with a few new posts. Sounds like there was a spare inside with a table leg in the middle??
Because of the cool new spare ideas here, I'm going to start a new thread. Great to see!
I'll give it a day...

Weird that the photo changed! The original post showed the spare tire on the floor with the dinette table post stuck through its hole....I'll try to find a new photo!
