Well, this might be a silly question...I have been searching all over this forum and can't find any answers. I took a couple of drip caps(eyebrows) off my side windows to clean up while we were painting and now I would like to replace the putty underneath. Can anyone tell me what this is? Can I just use a window sealant from Ace Hardware or should I be using this butyl tape everyone loves. Thanks. PS Patty Ann is almost ready for her debut pics....

The putty you removed was butyl and you should replace it with some new butyl. It comes in a roll with a wax/parchment-like paper keeping it separated from itself. It reminds me of a combination of the silly putty I played with as a child and plumbers putty.
