Can't figure out where to put this and haven't seen any other threads regarding the step at the front door of your trailer. What is everyone using or doing, if their trailer didn't already comed with an original, for a step? (The one at VTS is way too wide for my front door so its not an option) Let's see some pix! Thanks

I built a step stool. 7 inches tall, a little wider than the doorway, and 14" deep. I'm pretty happy with it, though I just saw a cool porch/deck. I don't have a pic of mine yet, but here's the picture of the one I saw made by a Scotty owner named Becky. it's 4' wide by 3' 2" deep and 6 3/4" high. Attachments:

Yes i have been told by my wife that we need a step... i didnt know "we" needed a step but i guess ill need to look into something for it. LIke that little deck porch for the scotty, likely go similar to that.

Here is a pic of the little step I use. It is an old Cosco brand that I picked up on eBay for $10. Came complete with rust and years of neglect. Love it!

I had a couple who make stools make one for mine. It is red and can be stored in the trailer. My current trailer still had the rusty original one and I had the tire guys take it off because it had a hole in it. If you look on Etsy, look for Circle Creek Home's shop. They send them all over the country. Just an idea for you. M

Here is Becky's deck with the rope lights underneath. She attached solar lights to each outer corner and the whole image at night is a real help when going back to the camper in the dark. Attachments:

My Mother-In-Law, Bless Her Heart, liked old step stools and had a small collection of them around her turn of the century house...I enjoyed seeing if I could spot any new treasures she had found when we would go out for our nightly visits...if you are not looking for them, you don't realize how many cute vintage wooden step stools, like the design Jim posted above, used by little ladies in the kitchen to reach things stored up high in cupboards, are out there, most at flea markets are $10 or less. I have a small "deck" like Gone Kayaking posted I use in front of my Compact, but although it is a great little deck, it is kind of like that spare tire you have to throw in the back of the tow vehicle...too heavy and cumbersome to lug around, in my opinion. I suggest vintage step spotting the next few antique/flea marketing outings any Member takes as an alternative...that way you get a true vintage step for your vintage camper that does not have an original steel pull-out step.

The big platform is nice but I agree with Bruce in that the last thing I want is something else to have to lug around. My husband doesn't like the idea of the little step stools because they are too tippy especially on uneven terrain (boondocking). As a last resort (as in: he's had enough trailer work, thank you very much) he figures to make a step that will actually attach to the trailer. We thought about using a vintage stair tread as the step but haven't really gone so far as to plan the whole thing out. I just thought I'd see what others were doing to see if we could steal a better idea especially if it was less work!

got our step buttoned up this week. will do something else to make it slip proof. this is made from an aluminum dunnage rack with a board bolted to the top. measures about 24" x 24" x 9". works great. like a little porch.

Jim, your little stool is perfect! I wish I could find one like that for ours.

Ask Potomac to post a pic of the step he made. It is his spare tire with a wood top that locks on. At least I think it was Potomac at McKinney that had it.
