Hello! I'm 30 minutes old at VSTF...and already asking questions! I just bought My Sweet Shasta...she's a 1964 compact. And while I have yet to make an awning...I'm already thinking about how to run some string lights from it. Typically, I camping "in the ruff"...with no electrical. But, even if I were in a campground, where do you plug the lights in without having an extension cord hanging down along the camper? (ugly) I saw solar string lights. Have you had an experience with those? Perhaps I should figure out how to add a battery or solar panel to my unit so I don't need to "plug in" anywhere...and then allow such a unit to supply power to my awning lights. Your thoughts? Thanks in advance! (Did I mention I'm beyond excited and picked out material for new curtains and pillows today! ) Lisa Attachments:

Last week we bought a set of solar string lights (around 40-50 LEDS about 18' long) for $15 at Big Lots for our barn and they work great for about 6-8 hrs after the sun goes down. My wife liked them so much she went and bought another set for the Shasta. Don't know how long they will last, but there is a AA rechargeable battery in the charger pack that can be replaced if it starts to get weak.

I like them too. I have a number of friends who use them....I'm gonna get a pack or two. I suspect there is no reason to think that with LEDs that they will last a good long time. I have noticed that the $3 cheap solar path lights you get at HD and Lowes don't necessarily last that long, but that might be wiring. I had a dozen and 3 went bad by the end of our 7 weeks of camping using them pretty much every night.
