I want to re-screen my windows (1965 with louvered windows). Do the windows need to come out to do this? Can't seem to see how to do this without pulling them out. Thanks for any ideas!

The windows don't need to come out to remove the screens...there is extra vertical space alloted for the screens so that they would lift up in their own space and then the bottom will be free of the window framing. I had a hard time trying to figure out how to say it and if my description didn't work we'll be seeing you soon at Mckinney or maybe someone else will say it better.

Hummm on mine , the hehr standard windows that I have on my 1500 have screens that are integrated into the window, and I think they do need to be removed when you're doing the refurbishing. (I didn't cause I was in a hurry and now I wish I had) On the jalousies, there is a separate screen piece, though.

my 1970 has removeable screens, works in the same manner that harrison described. lift up on the top edge of the window screen frame, it will seem like its not going to work but then it pops free. i would lift in the corners. possible your windows are different though

Thanks for the advice, I will look again at the jalousies. The back window needs to be redone also - it is a slider and someone bent the screen trying to remove it.

i saw this tool shopping on their site but i was confused as to what it would be used for exactly. when i did mine i used a standard spline roller (same as house windows) and it worked fine but maybe the older screens (pre 1970 at least) had a different way of doing things?

Reading about the tool on VTS says it's for screens that do not use the spline to hold the screen in the frame. I did like Vikx, I bought my screen, new spline and a $3 tool from Lowes and replaced my screens on my 69 compact. I had never replaced a screen before but found it real easy to do! Brent
