I found a late 50's airflyte in a "guys" field. He doesn't have the title and long story short I don't think he is the owner. The front and side windows have been busted out by a person the "guy" said lived in it for awhile and got pissed off at something and took his anger out on the windows. The inside is in pretty good shape with most everything original. It has wings! I really want the trailer but it may be impossible to get it titled in Idaho. He said he would sell it for $300.00. How can I possibly get it titled if he is not the owner or should I part it out to fix the 62 airflyte that I have. I really want to try and save it! If I don't do anything it will probably go to the dump? His place is up for sale.

If the trailer was abandoned on his property, it might be lien saled for storage? As long as the previous owner(s) haven't been around in a long time, it's doubtful they would make a claim.
The wings are worth the price. I would buy it. Once you have it "in hand", contact your DMV and find out what the requirements are for re-registering and a new title.
Here in Washington, it takes 3 years to get a new title, after following the regulations.

BUY IT!
At least in CT you dont have to have a previous title. They have a form at the DMV that you fill out with a full description of the vehicle and a new title gets issued. This kind of situation is not uncommon at the DMV when old vehicles are involved. I also dont think its as strict with trailers as it is with cars or motocycles.
I totally agree with VIKX, save it.

Can you request a 'salvage title' in your state? Sometimes the less said the better. I had title problems at on Ohio BMV, went with the same paperwork to another and was able to get mine titled.

Glad to hear you are going to get it! If all else fails, the parts are worth more than that. But hopefully you can get it titled.

I got back early from my hunting trip and had left a couple of messages to the "guy" wanting to confirm price and ask him more about the title. For two days I had not gotten any reply and was thinking this might not happen. Just spoke with him and everything is currently on track to purchase it and he said he is going to contact the person he got it from to see about the title. We will see. I am still very excited about this but don't want to get my hopes up to much!

Here are some photo's of the yard find shasta airflyte. I don't know the year. It is either a 1958 or 1959. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Still in the process of buying it. I gave the guy $50.00 so he felt that I was serious and will put some wheels on it! It dose not look as in good of shape as the first time I looked at it. Do you all still think it is worth fixing? photobucket.com/yardfindairflyte

Well, I'm the first to chime in... the wings are worth the price. It looks to have potential and to be a nice restoration candidate. That would include lifting the skins, framing repair, new paneling/ceiling and putty at the edges, doors, and windows. Lots of original pieces and window glass is an easy fix. Have Fun!

Well the bad news is that I didn't get the whole trailer but the good news is that I got parts. The "guy" gave me a power of attorney deal and I went to the dmv and they basically said nice try but this is not going to cut it! So I asked the "guy" if I could get parts and he said sure so it cost me some money and I will use some of the parts for my 63 airflyte and sell what I don't need. It sucks because it was a 58 with the rounded cabinet corners and though quite a bit of work would have been nice to save! By the way the "guy" was scary, looked like charles manson and a pit bull as a side kick! I need to quit looking and fix the 63 that I have even though the interior was painted and needs some body work!
