I am thinking of sending the interior and exterior parts of my Bargmans (I have two) to be rechromed. I will send the plates, and the handles. Has anyone done this? I would imagine they need to be totally stripped, etc. Wondering what the cost may be. Maybe before I send them out I can take them to a welder and have him fill in/reinforce the underside of the exterior handle so I wont have any future problems with it. On a side note, I saw the exploded view of the L66, but I am looking for a good step by step guide to disassembling these and re-grease them, get them functioning nice and smoothly. Is there a link somewhere that covers that? Thanks! ;D

Haven't re-chromed one and don't think I'd weld on one, but I've taken them apart. From the exploded diagram: Remove the 4 - #10-32x1¼” screws (#11) and separate the interior and exterior pieces You probably won’t need to mess with items #8, 9, 10, 12 (unless you’re re-chroming). Remove screws #3 and guide plate #2 Remove screw #6 and remove cylinder adaptor #5 Remove the screw pictured above washer #7 and remove the 2 screws from the 1 ½” x 3/8” metal plate pictured below the #9. This plate holds the tail of the latch bolt (#4) and spring (#15) in position and it holds the locking arm in place. The small spring (#14) and ball bearing (#13) are also under the 1 ½” plate, don’t lose them. The latch cam (#16) just sits in a guide hole and will fall out when you remove the latch bolt and spring. Clean everything up and re-assemble. I didn’t use grease on the lock, that just makes dirt stick to it. There’s a spring that keeps the handle retracted – it’s under the square-ish metal plate with rubber gasket held by 4 small screws. I shot a little WD40 on the spring and worked the handle back and forth to loosen it up a little. You don’t need to take the plate and gasket off to do this. Just pull the handle open and give it a little shot from the outside. Attachments:

Please let us know how it turns out and how much it cost. We are thinking about having our faucet re-chromed. The burner grates on ours were in really awful shape, and we wound up sending them to a place in So California that re-porcelains old stoves. They turned out great, and will last another 50 years.
