Looking at replacing my leaf springs and curious what the axle is rated at on a 16 s/c or Astrodome. Any ideas?

We just bought one and I will have to address the missing original axle and suspension I will be trailering it home. It will be a restomod as the interior is gone. I was wondering what it would cost me for a standard replacement axle either new or used. I need this cost to evaluate what I may do, or not do, I think I can fab up some brackets for air bags and a ride height valve and make it air ride. Anybody ever seen that? I have a lot of things around it would not cost me much just time. In another life I am into trucks and buses. It would probably need about 12 or 14lb of air pressure to achieve ride height with such a light load it. It would really make the trailer soft and smooth. Other benefits are I could drop it down when camping with a spool valve and a manual control. If I used a ride height valve for each side and had a power leg up front it would be power leveling. Air would come from a d/c air compressor powered off the trlr batt charged from the toe vehicle. You could even put the controls in the tow vehicle so you could raise it up when you dint want to drag but that would take some doing even I have a limit No I'm not nuts. What was originally there leaf springs or was it a torsion axle? What would a new axle and suspension fetch approximately? Just parts

I priced out a whole set up, 3500# axle with a 4" drop, Leafs, shackles and bolts, and brakes (yes these had drum brakes) was 471.00 shipped. I believe I used trailerpart.com for the pricing.
