Would a wheel on the tongue jack make it easier for me when hitching or cause more problems than it's worth?

we love our wheel, of course it just pins on there so it can be removed when towing etc. It allows us to move it by hand into its carport and like wise when hitching up if your not dead on it allows you shove it over just enough etc to get it hitched.
we could live without it but its a nice option to have when its needed.
also have the solid plate for the jack for sand or dirt camping when of course the wheel is of no use. (though i know they make a HUGE wheel meant for boat trailers in sand)

So I can just jack the jack up high enough to put it in and remove it if I want to? I bought one on ebay because I thought it would be useful like you say it is, but then I read somewhere that it makes the trailer roll when you don't want it to - I think in some review for some cup-shaped thing to set it in, sooo being a total camping newbie, I was a bit confused. Thanks, offspring in, it's going on. I need all the help I can get in handling even my little Compact. Do you guys realize the value of those muscles?

If there's one thing I'm not, it's "handy." I'm looking for whatever will help me deal with the weight of the trailer when I'm traveling without my husband. Thanks for the tips. Seems like you remove it when you're on the road and place it back when you stop, right?

yup, its either in the back of the truck or in the storage door. the taller camper/truck combos might could keep it on but the compact of course is low and in certain places it may grab so for safetys sake i take it off.
I should have asked before is your jack original or a replacement? ours was messed up when we got the trailer so i put a new jack on, because of this it has attachments like the wheel etc, is drilled to accept them etc. i think most new jacks are i just dont know if the old ones were set up for options.

My jack is original. The trailer is at the RV place getting the wheel bearings packed, new tires, and new LP line so I can't go check it, but I get it what you're saying. I might not even have holes in it to slip the pin through.

Thanks, offspringin. You must be about the age of my kids. If you're ever in Florida and need someone to fix you a pot of chicken soup or something, yell. You've been very helpful to me, and I really appreciate it! Oh, and if you ever want to make a trip south of the border, I'm a wealth of information on that - just as good at it as I am at making soup. I just can't CAMP!!

I'll be watching the exchange rate! The peso went up fairly recently, but it had been down down down for awhile. So that 500 MXN might worth $40 USD if you're lucky.

lopo... i just put a little piece of carpet under my wheel. Low tech and probably not the best solution but so far so good. I've had my trailer try to roll away in my driveway. Kinda scary :0

No kidding scary! =0 Won't happen in my driveway because it's shell (Florida's "gravel"). My bigger issue is moving the trailer around the driveway or yard at all. I can't get it to budge on the sand (well, grass on top but still, the ground underneath won't pack) or shell. Frustrating not to have muscle. (I've thought about a power mover, but that's a lot of money to invest in something that I'm not sure will work, either, altho it sure would be nice to be able to jockey it around while I'm working on it.)

well the strength to move it i cannot help with.... as far as that caster on grass/gravel etc they make a HUGE caster wheel. dont know if you can buy one without the jack. Saw this in person at a bass pro and thought it was neat-o wheel is 4" wide which helps to keep it from sinking into the ground better than a standard jack caster www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Mighty-Wheel-Jack-1500lb-/product/53506/57914

My husband built himself a power beach wheelchair using these big Wheeleeze balloon tires. Maybe that's what I need on the tongue! www.wheeleez.com/
