Not sure where this should go as I didn't see step in any of the topics. Brian? I am trying to determine when Shasta began adding the pull out step to the trailers and on which models. So please respond and let me know the year of your trailer, model and whether or not it has an original step. Also, if the step appears original - does it say Shasta? Thanks! Barbara Here is one from a 1969 (not mine but I wish it was).

Both of my trailers are 1966. They both have steps and they both say Shasta.

My 1972 Compact has no step and I see no signs that it ever had one.

my 59 deluxe has a step, looks original, but does not say Shasta
my 61 airflyte does not, and never had a step.
on a side note, I would love to find one of those with the Shasta logo on it, any leads?

Yeah, I'm on the lookout for a step too, especially with Shasta on it. The compact is so small nothing already out there seems to fit.

My 61 Compact doesn't have a step and doesn't look like it ever did.

70 compact has no step. I looked into installing one there but the framework under the trailer is minimal in that area. Would need to weld or bolt cross brackets or something to have the ability to mount it. I have seen them on a compact of similar toaster design but my guess is it wasnt standard

Does anyone know if the Compacts ever came with steps? I bought one that folds and sits on the ground to make it easier for the little ones to step up into the trailer but really it seems low enough that an adult wouldn't have trouble. But does make me wonder if they never came with them originally.

Don't think they did, but it'd be nice to be proved wrong if it could provide a simple way for all the rest of us to add one. It'd be one less thing to take on the road (and forget at a campsite).

BUMP Could anybody take some measurements? Also measure the side pieces that has the slots? I would like to make one? It wouldn't have the logo but still I would have a step. The brackets that hold the step are still on my 1500 but the step is MIA.

My 1964 Astrodome has a step which says Shasta on it. (At least it did until I sold it to a member here! My 1968 1599 has a step without Shasta on it. I had a 65 Compact that did not have a step. Finally, a few months ago I parted out an abused 1972 Stratoflyte that had a step with Shasta on it.

My '69 Compact does not (yet) have a step...I am planning on adding one for the sake of my short-legged wife and my up and someday-camping-with-us grandson.
1964 Airflyte has the logo step, and the 1970 16SC has also got the step with logo. I'll try to get some photos and detail the measurements first thing tomorrow....

seems like the range has been narrowed down to steps being fairly common during the mid 60's but not before or after.
I am pretty happy with the step stool that I built. Have any members used either of the two VTS trailer steps? The reviews are not specific.

Step on my '64 Airflyte. Tread measures 20" X 8" with an overall length of 21" with the mounting rails. It appears it's the same measurements as the one VTS has, only with the logo. The end bracket is about shaped like C-channel, but I am sure is stamped steel. It is about 6" wide, and hangs about 5" below the mount. The upper "lip" of the channel is about 1-1/2 inches, and the lower "lip" is about 1" wide. The rail that goes between the two ends that the step runs in and out on, appears to be 1/4" steel rod, and is located 2" down from the frame mount and 2" back from the outward edge of the mount rail. The brackets attached to the ends of the step is a little hard to measure because of its funny shape, but is about 11" tip-to-tip. It is mounted so the end is 6" from the rear edge of the step, about 2 inches back but hard to get an accurate measure on the curved edge of the step corner. The slot is around 5/8" wide, and the bend is about 7" from the end with the funny cut. That cut is made to hold the step in when traveling.

Something else to mention. I've noticed when they rust out the Shasta Logo section is usually still in OK shape soooo.... Yall can cut out the shasta Logo panel on the old one and weld that part to a new step, little paint and BAM! New Shasta step.

Thanks, I could use them and another member on here is having issues with his step not reaching each of the frame pieces, I think he is missing some brackets, that's what got me searching this thread.

This may take me an extra day. I am recovering from a complete computer failure this past week...all weekend trying to restart absolutely everything. I have not gotten to the Airflyte photos yet...but I have them here somewhere and I WILL make this work!

been doing some checking, I need the bracket to mount the step under the camper, the good news is I can get it from vintage trailer supply, the bad news is it comes with the step, and is $47.99, then I have to figure out how to cut the new step off the rod and get my Shasta step on it, looks like I would have to cut out a section of the rod groove, put the step on then weld the section back on. www.vintagetrailersupply.com/Folding_Step_5_25_Drop_p/vts-693.htm

You may be able to cut the rod out and replace it, either grind off one end and slide it back in, or replace it with a new piece and tack it in. Then it would nt require cutting up any of the bracket.

When I was "scouting" for others a few months back I came across a very run-down Shasta with the logo step. When I realized the potential buyer was a no-go, I asked the owner if I could have the step and she said yes; unfortunatley the mounting was way too complicated to remove the darn thing. I was really torn-up about for a long time.
