Does anybody have a source for custom fitted covers for storing Shasta style trailers?

I would love one too...if they didn't cost the farm.

Good morning everyone- My husband and I have a '63 Airflyte and we want to buy a cover for it to keep the sun from deteriorating the caulking etc. on the roof. We need something for the time being until we can figure out where to store 'it in the dry'. (It has no leaks now, but every time it rains I hold my breath!) We were hoping to find a good cover that was made for a camper; not just a tarp. Do any of you out there in Shasta-land have one from a manufacturer that you could recommend? I have just started looking and I must confess I am very confused... Thanks so much, and Peace to you all-

I'd think the hardest part would be covering the wings

Metalgirl, you sound just like me. Our little one doesn't have any leaks either and I of course worry though everytime it rains. Next will be the worry of snow in the winter. A custom cover would be great. Now I've heard, can't remember where, that covering them can cause the trailer to "sweat" thus introducing moisture inside. Does anyone know if this is true?
I'd feel much better covering ours to protect it against the elements, especially through the winter but don't want to cause damage either.

Kel1 Just got finished looking at the pics of the 1959 Compact Pro Restoration currently on ebay. There are two shots of it WITH a complete cover, including a pretty simple answer for the wing protrusions. Might want to check that out. I am going to try and contact the seller and simply ask if they had it custom made or if by any chance they bought it from a manufacturer none of us has diacovered.

Bruce,
I saw that one too and was admiring that cover. If you get a reply from him could you let us know? I too was curious if that was something he/she created or if they had it made some place. Great solution for the wings.

I received a nice reply from the seller. It was a custom cover. He did not have the lady's contact information, but gave me a lead to try to get in touch with her. I will see if I can reach her. I will post if anything new comes of this. I did check the net for cost of that type of "cloth" and it is expensive. Also checked Discontinued Trailer Covers, and found you can buy fairly deep discounted covers from Wal-Mart up to 33' long. I'm wondering if a person has some sewing skills if they might do better buying the biggest discontinued model cover and use the cloth to make one to fit your trailer, with possibly enough left over to make a second one for a Compact sized cover. I have a commercial sewing machine, and some basic sewing skill...I may try that approach for a cover for the '61 Compact.

Found the member that the '59 seller suggested I contact, and successfully sent my inquiry along. Awaiting an answer from them now. I asked if the maker was there, if she could give me a quote for one just like the one she made for the '59, including wing holes...

I'm still looking for the right cover. I'm trying to find a "breathable" RV cover as I heard that is the best to go with. Also I was told I might want to just take the wings off when storing for the winter so there isn't a risk of damage to them or tearing of the cover. Makes sense. If I do that I'd just dab a bit of sylicone on the screw holes and then when I go to put them back on next Spring there won't be any leakage and the screws will go right through the sylicone.
I got a quote for one from a catalog for $318 (YIKES!) in the size I need. Going to see what else is out there. I also need to get tire covers.
I thought about trying to find inside storage. Maybe someone with an old barn, etc., but then I'm worried about what mice and critters might be in it. So looks like she's bound to sit in the driveway this winter and covered.
Should I get any extra type cover (plastic) to go over each roof vent? Then cover the whole thing with the rv cover?
Daisy has declared herself a high maintenance girl =)

We've ordered one of these: www.shelterlogic.com/garages_gib_suv.htmlDoor is 8'4" high by 8' wide at the top, so it will fit our compact. Dunno if the door will fit your overcab ... but ... you could always build the garage over the camper, rather than building empty and backing the camper in. We plan on doing that because neither of us are particularly accurate when it comes to backing in just yet. The tarp will last longer if you take it down in the spring, anyway, so it's not a major problem for us. And we don't need any kind of permit ... at least out here. Hope that helps.

I looked at those Shelter Logic portable garages. I think we might consider one for next year. I'd like to set one up on the side of our house but we have to get a tree taken down first in order to be able to back it into that area.
I think I'd have to build it up a bit taller though as I think my Astroflyte is appx 9 ft tall. But would love to have something like that for longer term winter storage. For this year we are going w/the RV cover.
Oh and when we had our compact that wee thing was so much easier to back in that our Astroflyte is. And I'm good at backing stuff in (much more than hubby, but don't tell him I said so) but find backing the Astroflyte to be challenging and requiring a lot of patience (:
