i found a little piece of metal with a small arch at the bottom and with a stamped B on it floating around in my lock when I removed it from the door. see pic below. does anyone know what this is and where it goes? does anyone have a bargman L-66 manual that shows individual parts and their placement? also, the tiny metal rectangle next to it. This was screwed to the birch about 3/4 up the door. Does anyone know what its for? thanks! paul

The tiny rectangle piece is the screen door magnetic door plate. It is the plate that the magnet on the screen connects to when they are together. I am almost 90 percent positive on this. I will look when I get home from work to confirm. I also have 5 Bargman locks. I will open one of them up to see about the other piece.

Ok, I have taken a Bargman L-66 B1 apart and I don't see the part other than the Magnetic back plate in the internal parts. I have taken close up macro pictures and posted them on my Picasa gallery for you and others to see. Maybe someone else has an idea of what that part is? Here is the link to my pictures : picasaweb.google.com/montanablue249/100420BargmanL66B1?feat=directlinkSomeone must have an exploded view of all of the individual parts of the Bargman L-66. Sorry that I could not help. Rick

I posted an exploded view of the L-66 in a new thread, Bargman L-66 exploded view, so it wouldn't get lost in this one for those who are looking for it in the future.

thanks again!!!

It is part of the lock. The exploded view does not have it shown. Why I don't know. Give me awhile and I will take mine apart and take a pic where it belongs.

I just took mine completely apart, down to every piece to lubricate it. I can say that this part doesn't exist in the Bargman L-66. As a side note, I have. A word of caution if you do the same thing I did and take it completely apart. There is a ball bearing located under the lock/unlocking linkage assembly. When you take the two screws off of the holding plate, be sure to put this aside before you lose it. Mine came rolling out and almost out of site.
My Bargman looks the same as the one in the picture. I would also say that the part looks to be a Bargman part, but I don't think it belongs in the L-66. Let's hear from Frank to see if he will confirm my findings.

Here is a closeup pic of that piece. It seems to be a limiter which prevents the handle from being turned too far?? Attachments:

Mine has the letter A on it instead of B. Who knows. My lock is a L66B1.

Frank, Thanks for showing me the light. I went back and tool another look at my lock. I can clearly identify the part. It is not a separate part but a part of the Latch Bolt which has broken off. See attached picture. It looks like you will have to have that piece repaired. Rick Attachments:

How is it attached? Is it welded? I don't see any contact points. It does make sense that it would be a solid piece however. Otherwise, what would stop it from falling out of that space when it's in the door. I will look into this further. Thanks.

Does anyone happen to have an outer handle they would part with for the l-66. Thanks Tony

how do you get the lock out of the l-66? i have the handle all apart because i was replacing the latch bolt with the new aluminum machined version.i have a new cylinder and keys but i cant figure out how to get the old one out. it looks like it has something to do wtih the brass pin and the hole in the main casting. can anyone help me?

You need to insert the key into the cylinder in order to depress the brass pin so the cylinder will pull out of the handle. I don't have it in front of me at the moment but I think you may need to rotate the key either 90 or 180 degrees in order to depress the brass pin. Good luck.

THANKS FOR THE INFO.I DONT HAVE THE KEY FOR THE OLD LOCK SO IT LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO CUT THE REAR ROTATING PIN PORTION OF THE LOCK OFF SO THE TUMBER GUTS CAN BE REMOVED. THEN I CAN PROBALY GET TO THE LOCKING PIN SO I CAN GET THE REST OF THE LOCK BODY OUT,SO I CAN PUT THE NEW LOCK IN. THIS FORUM IS A GREAT THING,THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Thank you Forum Friends, just repaired my L-66, installed a new lock cylinder & guide plate. I must say this forum is invaluable! I didn't have the old key which you need to remove the old cylinder, so here's what worked great. I drilled into the old cylinder just enough to drill in half the brass pin that holds the cylinder in place (see pic) then I used a snipped off paper clip to drive the pin into the void where i drilled, the old lock slid right out...(dlarrow, my new cylinder I had to turn 90 deg. to depress the pin on the new cylinder) I then cleaned the parts, lubed it up and reassembled it...except for all the pitting it looks great (much better than the old paint i stripped off from the previous owner.
