I was so excited just day before yesterday, because I had finished replacing nearly all of the framing on the back of the camper and could now start to put her back together again. The old ceiling vent was more duct tape than vent and has clearly been an avenue for leaks. I had hoped that, because of the all of the replacement paneling put in by POs, that the leak damage had been repaired before the new paneling was installed. Either they didn't actually repair the damage, or they didn't actually stop the leaks. This is what I found yesterday. (the blue is the tarp that I fear will have to live perpetually on top of Trixie). I can't tell you how much I DON'T want to have to take off the roof. Hang on and I'll post one more photo with my questions. Attachments:

Stepping back a bit, you can see new roof paneling put in by a PO. I suspect I'll need to remove that "new" paneling to see what is under it before I'll know what I'm facing. Does anyone have an alternative suggestion that would allow me to get the new Fan-Tastic fan in without having to take another drastic measure? I know that I'll have to do it eventually, but we're almost in June and I want to spend the summer camping, if possible. If not, will someone please show me how the silver piece is affixed? I'm talking about what looks like maybe a seam filling type of article that goes from the port to starboard sides across the ceiling. You can actually see it a little better in the last photo. Thanks! Attachments:

You will not be able to remove the aluminum channel. It is attached to the roof spar (rafter).
You will need to remove the one piece of paneling, in order to replace the rotted wood framing around the roof vent.
Once you have it opened up, now would be a great time to add 12v power to the opening. This way, if you ever plan on installing a Fantastic Fan or a Maxx Fan, you will already have the wires in place.

OK. I just got a Fan-Tastic fan and had not yet figured out how to get 12v power over to it, so I'll do as you suggest and take out that one piece of plywood for double duty.
Thanks!
