I know I'm thinking way down the road but I'm a planer by nature. I don't want a new fridge sticking out in a old camper. We're not changing the layout and don't want to re-configure around new. Husband is going to re-wire and convert to all electric. I hate the brown color fridge plus it's nasty and I don't think it even works. Have any of you gutted out a old fridge and put a new one in behind the door? If it would work, this would be perfect for us Alll that would be left of the old fridge would be the metal sides, top and front door. I could then paint the door any color I wanted. Any help would be great!

I have similar thought on my fridge. The gas Dometic was not working, nasty, and I was positive was not original( I was wrong, lol) I have a 3.2cu ft dorm fridge that is near exact fit, so I may either hide it with a cabinet door or I will paint the front door the same color as my accessories. It has a curved front so it will look somewhat original. I like your idea though, it would be a cool project!

Just a thought, I've seen newer RV fridges that allow the door panel to be changed, to allow a wood or colored panel to be put in place. If you got one of those, you could maybe insert the old fridge's door panel...

Hi I just joined from Canada, first post, I just bought a 62 Airflyte, I was hooked just like the rest of you. Has anybody tried to use the original Ice Box but insert a "cooler fan" from a 12 volt "Koolatron or other brand of cooler. I know on road trips it keeps stuff cool quite well but runs all the time but still does not provide 110 V. Ideas ? Signed : Trailertrashta
