Hey, does that trailer dolly work in that high grass? I need one if it does!

I used Valspar tractor paint white on the top, Kubota orange on the bottom, will use aluminum colored rustoleum for the stripe. I used a foam roller, large and small. The dolly works good behind my Honda ATV, its homemade and should have harder tires, but no problems with gravel or grass.

My Airflyte had what looked like a white stripe all around until I found out on this forum that the stripe is actually the place on the trailer with NO paint -- the actual aluminum! I polished my stripe and love it! You may need to mask the area you painted already, but trust me, you'll love the original look that no paint can match! I also painted the areas above and below with rustoleum (thinned to about 1/2) using foam rollers and could not be happier with how it came out! Attachments:

The more I see these roll on paint jobs the more I'm impressed. I almost rolled my 'dome but decided to spray again. I was quite worried about spraying outside with all the bugs and dirt but it worked out pretty well. I am not a great painter so my paint doesn't look much smoother than a foam roller anyway. Maybe tonight I will actually put together my own $50 paint thread.

How much paint did it take? Did you prime it first?
for $50 I am going to have to do that

For spraying I used 2 quarts for top, 2 for bottom. I did not prime but it sure wouldnt hurt. People have said that the paint won't stick to bare aluminum but I did not have the problem at all.

Ok... I'm typing this a THIRD time because this Pro-Boards app keeps crashing (can't believe I paid for this app, but that's another string...) I used 3 quarts of "white linen" rustoleum thinned to milk consistency with mineral spirits and 2 quarts of "royal blue" thinned to the same consistency. I used the white foam hotdog rollers, but found I needed to smooth out bubbles with one of those wide grey wedge "brushes" that you can pick up at the paint store - this cut down on sanding between coats. It takes about 6 coats before it starts looking very good, sanding between each 2 coats. You will hate it after the first and second coat thinking it will never work -- but have patience. It looks better after each sanding and new coat! There is a whole thread about the $50 paint job in Exterior Restorations section of this forum, but here is the link that explains it all... I am very happy with my project and wished that I had done the outside first now! I admire my '60 Airflyte every time I go outside my house now! I tried to us the link option to paste this link, but it crashes the Proboards app each time I attach it. I then tried pasting it directtly into this posting, but only half of the link works then. So to use it, you might need to copy and paste the link. Sorry! Stupid ProBoard App! Ok... got it to work but had to go to a web browser on a computer to do it. Should have just stuck with the free option on my PC! www.rickwrench.com/index79master.htm?http://www.rickwrench.com/50dollarpaint.htmlAttachments:

BTW -- it cost me more than $50 due to price of paint and materials, but still under $100. The $50 paint job is more of an expression for roll on paint jobs...

My cost:
8.50 a quart x 4, $4 roll of masking paper, $9 in masking tape. $7 paint thinner.....$54 total
I already had air compresser, paint gun, mixing cups, sandpaper, razor knife, rags, plus a hundred other little things that cost you $300 the first time around....

I could spray it i have all the gear, but the way boandsusan describes it sounds like rolling it on would be a lot easier. The photo of the trailers she has painted look great.

I was on a time constraint by painting outside. I sprayed everything pretty much in one day. I did not wet sand. I'm sure that would help my end results, but I am very pleased how well it worked out.

I used almost a full gallon of white and half a gallon of orange. My camper had the orginal paint with a coat of really tuff white paint over the whole thing, polishing would have taken forever.

I'd go with white on the bumper and either white or the orange on the tongue. It's looking good! Painted white walls or those Portawalls would really finish it off. Or even just painting the wheels themselves white would make it pop.

I agree with LittleVintageTrailer, I think white bumper and white tongue. Definately, some white in the tire area. It looks great. Always amazes me, what a little paint and time can do.
