I got my wings polished up pretty well last night. I used Red Dirt's recipe of 3M Super Duty Rubbing Compound #05954 and then Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish. I used a felt pad on the end of a drill to apply the rubbing compound. Then wiped it off with a rag. Then did the same thing with the aluminum polish (using a different pad of course). I'm pretty happy with the results! There is some crud on the bottom edge that wouldn't come off, maybe i'll try wet sanding those spots if i get the energy. Attachments:

I tossed this in the wings section because this is a wings specific post...
They look great! Nice job and thanks for posting the details on the resto.

Ha! I had actually started this post in this section but then waffled and decided that since it's about polishing it should probably go in the polishing section. I do thinks it fist better here though. Thanks Brian.

Wonder if that would work on my wings ... mine are those teeny little diamonds instead of the smooth stripes.

Mary- You are saying yours have a textured aluminum finish on the wings correct? If so it may help clean the aluminum but you probably will never get a high mirror shine (at least on the textured parts). I would hit them up with any aluminum polish like Mothers. It can't hurt and it would help clean and protect them. Brian Attachments:

Thanks Brian ... I tested a small square with Mother's and boy you can tell the difference ... I did that last fall and just put the wing back on until I felt like finishing them and when I drive into the garage, that square just shines! I'm just kind of lazy and need to get around to finishing the wings.

I polished my wings with fine steel wool and mothers aluminum polish. They looked pretty rough when I started and now they look great. Also worked well on the drip rails above the windows and doors.

I've been using a spray on aluminum cleaner I got from NAPA to clean up my aluminum. You just spray it on and rinse it off. It doesn't get rid of any pitting and smells very toxic. But since I have bad arthritis and arm nerve damage it sure beats using the ole' elbow grease.
BTW your wings look awesome!

I just started to tackle my wings... They were painted silver rustoleum. I started with some spray on stripper which got it started and am now using mineral spirits with steel wool. If anyone has any suggestions. that would be appreciated. Why would anybody paint these wings?!!
