Hi all, I really stumbled upon a jewel of a beach while camping at Edisto Island State Park in SC. While shopping at the Piggly Wiggly I saw a post card with the most photogenic beach I have seen in a long long time. I asked the head pig "where is this place"?? "Right up the road from the state park about 7 miles" Of course we were leaving the next day but I rounded up the troops and we were on BOTANY BAY BEACH by 8:00am This place is incredible to say the least. It was once a 4600 acre cotton plantation right up until the Civil War. This paradise was privately owned until the owner donated it to the state and the state opened it to the public in 2008. There is not one house on this beach and it does require a half mile lesurely walk through a beautiful salt marsh to get to the beach. There is a $470 Yep a Four Hundred Seventy Dollar fine if you take one shell!! I thought this was great!!! You get to see what a real beach should look like. The easy half mile trail to the beach. The vast salt marsh along the trail. Look at how big these trees were. I think they were oaks People have decorated the trees with shells since you can't swipe em!! Notice the crowds!! Two people when we got there.

so thats what you call it huh? tagging along? ought to charge you to tag along.
Thanks for posting those pics, those are great. I spent hours researching parks within a couple hundred miles of GA. What i learned was that in SC Edisto was the top one to see. We will be there and Hunting next year.

We were there a while back and got to watch a loggerhead lay her eggs. It was amazing and Edisto is our favorite beach to camp at. So beautiful. We are finally going back next year - can't wait! Yup, we are the Offspringin/Harrison429/65Callie caravan. Watch out South Carolina!

We use to go to Edisto, years ago. I never knew that BOTANY BAY BEACH was even there. Your pictures were amazing! I gotta see it in person, now.
