I have a compact with the tongue stamped ES19442PA1722. This seems odd to me. What say you Shasta pros? The reg. says 1970 and I believe that to be Waaaaay off! Attachments:

Looks older to me... Maybe early 60s?

Wow, what a sweet Compact! It can not be newer than 1963, and I'm thinking more like a 1960 because my 1961 has a running light on the curb side in front of the door, and yours does not have one, and I see no trace that one was there...Ross will probably let you know for sure he is our SME...in the meantime, remove the mirror on the closet door...it will have a stamp on the back telling you when it (the mirror) was made that will let you know pretty well what year it is.

I'd be guessing that somewhere in its history, someone registered it with no paperwork for a transfer, and the serial number is one that was assigned by the DMV somewhere, and may have happened in 1970. That is one sweet Compact. Definitely early '60-s as they went to the "toaster" shape somewhere around 1965.

More photos will help. But as to the clearance lights my 67, 13' doesn't have front clearance lights. It does have a stove vent in front of the door.

Are you sure that it is "ES" or could it be "FS"? Reason being, the "FS" Vin#'s had the second set of numbers that began with the "PA" prefix. This would make your Shasta a 64'. These were Northridge Shasta's, as well.
Based on the other "ES" VIN, you have a 63' Shasta, born in Northridge, California.
Hope this helps.

Evidently Ross is the vin guru maybe you could help with mine. After a little wire brush work I found this T12961. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Been eyeing it for a while in this driveway on the way to work. I stopped the other day and she said I could have it if I got it out of her driveway I think its a early 70s compact. Hasnt been road legal since 86. Having trouble finding wheels and tires so I can move it.

This is a 1960; the 61 would have an additional running light in the upper right.
