The "P" character designates the unit was manufactured in the Leola, Pennsylvania plant, which is quite common for the units you would likely find in NY state. The remaining digits are a sequential number of built units. I am not totally sure if there would have been a "batch" of one particular model that were run in order, say for example, the Airflyte models in a run of 2000 units being numbered in the 1000-2999, and another model say Compacts run in a batch in another grouping, say 3600-3700. There does not seem to be a definitive answer to that, nor is there a for-certain way to tell the manufacture date, or model from the serial number.
Board member Ross has been accumulating a database of numbers and has been generous enough to share his knowledge of where your number should fit with regard to a date of manufacture. I am sure he would be pleased to add your s/n to the database as well!

Thank you both! It's a Airflyte. I'd love to know the year.

Your Airflyte was born in Pennsylvania, as Chris mentioned, in 1963.
