Working on restoring my iconic Shasta Wings! After stripping 4+ layers of paint, cleaning with hydrofluoric acid, wet sanding with 800 & 1500 wet sanding paper & polishing with Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish, her's what she looks like! All done by hand (what a workout). Going for the "not so shiny" look. ;D Attachments:

looks, great!! just a hint, steel wool works 10 times better than sandpaper on aluminum and takes 1/5th the time. I learned this the hard way.

Thanks for the tip! What brand of steel wool do you use?

I have no idea, I have used everything from the 0000 steel wool from walmart to whatever the wife had in the kitchen with the built in soap, many here say to use steep wool and turpentine, and I have used steel wool and dish washing detergent with great with results as well. then hit it with a buffing wheel in a drill with polishing compound, presto! shiny.

Great job guys! Brillo pad (built in soap lol). I use Nu-Vite compound. Kinda pricey but hey, it her wings! After polishing try Shark hide. It protects the shine on aluminum for YEARS!

Ditto, Universal. I nearly put my shoulders out of joint sanding and polishing. Steel wool kept me out of the ER.

carol, it looks great! and just think of the free workout you're getting thanks boandsusan i'd never heard of that product before and after putting in so many labor intensive hours trying to find the shine i'd sure love to be able to keep it as long as possible!

Just make sure you thoroughly clean the steel wool particles off it afterward. Otherwise they will rust.

I am in the middle of polishing up my first wing and the steel wool works amazing, but I am seeing the lines in the aluminum (little scratches), does the buffing wheel get these out? I don't want to go any further and ruin them.....I have used the 0000 and 00 and then tried to get them shined with Brasso and some other aluminum polish but they are still dull with lines. Clean, but dull.
