I just barely clipped a fence post yesterday and it ripped off the trim on the curb rear side. There is some dry rot behind the skin in that location witch might make repairs problematic. How can I repair this? Can you buy the trim?

The rot behind the corner is probably a much worse problem than the trim is. It can be fixed, but if you do it right it will be a project. Vintage Trailer Supply has a couple different types of aluminum drip rail, here is one of them: www.vintagetrailersupply.com/Drip_Moulding_p/vts-760.htmThey probably are not the only place to look but only ones I know of off hand. The hardest part of the replacement rail is making the radius around the top corner.

I agree. Fix the rot and then worry about the trim. Most RV shops sell J rail that is very similar...

Your going to need some of the putty tape as well when you re-seal it. Butyl tape is what i have found it called. Vintage trailer supply sells it as well as some other online sites. Its pretty cheap. Think 5-6 bucks for 30 foot of the stuff.

Try some local RV repair places, they may have the trim in longer than 8' lengths. I just picked some up in Denver for $15.00 and it was 16'.

Getting the J-rail around a corner isn't too hard. My hubby laughed when I suggested getting the hairdryer, but he was game. We heated the aluminum - it's soft anyway, but when heated it becomes quite malleable - and it bent with very little trouble. You might want to practice a little first. It can also be brittle, so make sure it it quite warm before bending it around a form of some kind.
