Summary: walked into an NC DMV office today with a notarized bill of sale, checkbook, and NC drivers license and walked out with a plate for our 1961 16SC that had no title or registration when purchased. (no inspection, no bond, title coming in 4 months) Reason: went to the right DMV office and right person. Tale: 1. originally went to another DMV office and was referred to DMV abandoned property folks. 2. These folks told us we needed an inspection once it was road-worthy so we got it road worthy 3. told we needed a bond for a bonded title that would last for 3 years. 4. many calls to DMV with other instructions over the past weeks/months including get a prior notarized bill of sale to our seller/get an affadavit/submit a morals review by a licensed minister (just kidding). 5. tried NJ where we have property and that is a 12 step heavy process with newspaper postings in the state of purchase and surrounding states, etc. 5. got a guy in yesterday's call to NC DMV who said come into a State DMV office (not a franchise) and wait for certain folks (seasoned folks). Yea baby! Now on to more important things like finding 1/8 birch in 4x8 length B grade rotary cut with grain running long side. Or even finding an aluminum fabricator who can do a 6" round on a brake bender that will give me a 16' length.
