We are planning a trip with our 68 loflyte from South Carolina to New Mexico in early June. I am thinking of mainly I-40 to New Mexico and then head North up to Cheyenne Wyoming. From Wyoming head back on I-80 (hopefully cooler) into Pennsylvania. Head down I-81 back home to the heat!! Any suggestions of campgrounds you loved or can't miss tourist sites like the Chili Pepper Institute in Las Cruces or the Wal-mart museum in Arkansas . Seriously, We hike/ swim all day when we camp so, any campgrounds next to hiking and waterfalls, lakes etc. It's fun to think about this trip in the dead of winter. Any campsite suggestions next to the great outdoors would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Love the Ozarks and Tennessee I remember this one folk art museum off I 40 that was wonderful...but can't remember exactly where in Tennessee it was.
In New Mexico I strongly recommend checking out the Madrid (an artsy little town on the back road between ABQ and Santa Fe, Bandalier National Monument near Alamos, and Rio Grande Box Canyon area near Taos. There's also Pecos National Monument (Forest). Love New Mexico.
Assume from there you will head up I-25. Do detour through Canon City in Colorado and up to Salida. Follows the Arkansas River. Canon City is where the Starlite Campground is. Arkansas River has tons of great boating opportunities and places to camp. If you are going to go up to Wyoming...seems a shame to turn back east at Cheyenne. Frankly unless you go further into Wyoming, there's really no reason to go further north than Denver. So go further, GO to the Grand Tetons. Most of the campgrounds in the park allow small trailers (dry camping) and there are a couple that have hookups...most are first come first serve.
Then head back on 1-90 through South Dakota and the bad lands and east from there... drop down to 80 at Sioux Falls

That does sound like a nice route coming back. I figure the further North, the cooler, as it will probably be close to July as we make the turn back and may end up as far North as CT once we are back East. My sister is out in Las Cruces N.M and she is planning a lot around her and Utah. Thanks for the tips!! I'm hoping to hear more out there. Pretty quiet on here today. Everyone resting up for the Superbowl??

Lots of hot springs in N.M., www.discovernewmexico.com/nmhotspings/I went to Spence Hot Spring back in '03, which was a short hike to two pools, an upper and a lower. If you can get to the SW part of Utah, there is Bryce canyon, with all the beautiful pink rock, lots of campgrounds around there. Also, the Kaibab Nat'l Forest, near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, has a campground as well as lots of ranger roads off which you can camp.

Thanks for all your tips! My sister is in New Mexico and is always going to the hot springs. She mentioned how beautiful that part of Utah is also. I have been through P. A a bunch, but never camped, would be fun to.

Well early June isn`t too far off . How long of a trip with this be? I`ve never camped on a road trip but would love to. When the children where young and we lived in Europe we would load up and drive to Italy and camp for a week or two at a time. I don`t think my nerves could have taken a different campsite every night with the kids lol.
