I just modified this post, because we're now leaning more toward a period-correct ice box instead of a fridge. Apparently there are going to be too many problems with a fridge - including getting it thrj the door and into the camper! Here's my original post:
Hi! It's Spring, so I figure it's time to restart my search for a fridge for our Daisy May. She's a '61 Airflyte with brown stove, would like a brown, age-appropriate two-way fridge if possible. If NOT possible, would also consider a newer model, even green or harvest gold. (I know how to use spray paint!) We really need something that works, don't know how to work on them. Will travel for a good deal. Have been looking for a while now, any leads would be appreciated...

Hoosier, be really wary of used propane fridges. They often can't be repaired.

Thanks for the advise. Any suggestions, then, on what I should be looking for? I really hate the look of a modern fridge in a vintage camper!

I saw some where recently they were selling brand new guts for old style 2 way fridges. I'll have to look around a bit. When I find source, I'll post it up here. If someone would make a new fridge the same size as our vintage ones they would make a mint.

Not only the prices, but the cooling units aren't available for our smaller units....
A few guys have taken the old door and hung it as a cabinet door to hide the new fridge.

Makes me believe all the more that I am going to go with an icebox instead....

I have a brown fridge from a '64 Astrodome. Just started the renovation and have not tested mechanicals.
PM if interested. I am in northern Indiana.

Bump-bump! I'm giving this thread a bump, because I'm still looking. Would rather have an age-appropriate icebox than a too-new-looking (or non-functional) fridge. Thanks again!
