Ok, I should rephase that...nothing wrong with my awning. The awning is great! Just had Marti make one. Love it. It's the railing and getting the awning on the trailer that was a nightmare.
It took my son and I over an hour to get it slid onto the darn rail this weekend. When we had the compact the awning we had back then slid on there like butter. So what the heck? I think my rail must be warped or something. Some areas it looks a bit more "pinched" than others. OK, so I un-pinched it in those areas and still we were tugging and pulling and lucky if it slid an inch for every 10 minutes of gut renching pulling we did. It was utterly...
RE-DONK-U-LOUS!
So what do I do? Anyone have this problem? Hubby suggested lubing it up with vaseline? (don't laugh...I'll try just about anything at this point).
So back to the hour long awning install that should of taken 1-2 minutes max. So we finally get it on there as I was determined to use my new awning by golly. We get the poles all up and wow it looks fantastic. Oh and for those wondering if it looked funny because it goes up onto that upper bunk hump area, the answer is not at all. In fact when I stood back and looked from a distance I could hardly notice if one side was higher.
Anyway, so we are camped right next to the lake. We could hear the waves and see the beautiful lake. We could also feel the wind that kept picking up as the hours went by. So much so that I quickly realized that pole and rope awnings + wind = falling down awnings. Uhhgg! So I gave up around midnight and took the awning down. Do you think I could just slide it off the rail? No. I had to pop it off by pulling it straight out. That thing was not sliding anywhere.
Needless to say I was pretty frustrated. Any ideas? Could it possibly be that the plastic "rope" part on the awning is too thick? I assumed those were all pretty much standard. So maybe it's my rail that has the problem? I'd hate to have to replace the entire rail. Can you even do that or should I see if I can get the plastic rope part made smaller? Much smaller and it wouldn't stay on there though I'm afraid.
I was going to take pics but then after we finally got the awning on I realized I left my camera at home
