Ok, so I think I've ID'd my trailer as SN#18886. But everyone else seems to have a letter in front of their SN/VIN. If I just ignore the missing letter, the #18886 does seem to fall within the range of other Shastas from '65 in the Yahoo Classic Shasta group (especially those beginning with 'V'). So what's the deal? Are there other Shastas without a letter, or is my undercarriage from SOB? Maybe I'm reading it wrong. Does what looks like a '1' to me look like an 'l' (L) to everyone else? I've not been able to get a handle on the way the VIN numbers work with Shastas. In dating yours, did you try to check up on the back of the mirror and on the front window ledge and possibly under the sink? How about any manufacturer's metal tags on the stove or possibly the refrigerator. I would guess that the frame is original to the camper though.

It looks like a 1 to me. Coralee doesn't have a mirror for me to look at so I'll have to just take the ladys word for it that I bought her from that shes a 60.

I checked the back of the mirror and found nothing. I also looked under the sink, but I wasn't sure where to look or what to look for. The window ledge and the stove are places I didn't know about, so I'll check those out when I can. No fridge.
For now I'm going by the title, but I've seen a couple of 'square' mid '60s 16-SCs. Does anyone know when they changed from the canned ham to the square shape?

hello hasta shasta.... you may have this figured out by now but I read your number and after just going through the same thing on my shasta. While my V appears in front of the number, your V may be a character at the end it looks like its there just next to the RH weld. V apparently means made in Indiana.

You may be correct; that could be a V on the end.

There is a Factory Name Plate just to the left of the door handle. What does it read? That will really help.
If born in California (ES) it would be a 1963 If born in Indiana (V) it would be a 1964. If born in South Carolina (S) it would be a 1975 If born in Pennsylvania (P) it would be a 1971
I would bet that your 16SC is from California and probably from Northridge. I have another Shasta's VIN and it is a 16SC born within 1963 and real close to your Shasta's VIN.
