My 69 compact has two original propane tanks. Since this is rather new to me, I cant assume anything... Can I use these tanks, or do I need to replace with new ones. I think I was told that the old regulators cant be filled anymore.

You should be able to have new valves installed. I would first be sure the tanks are empty, then I would remove the old valve and then have the tanks media blasted. Then you can paint and revalve, would look like new. Whomever does the valves will pressure test and re-certify the tanks as well.

If there is nothing special about these tanks....aluminum or an odd size....you might double check on the overall cost to have the original tanks serviced, repainted and new regulators installed. It may be cheaper to just replace them with brand new tanks that are up to code. Lowes has these tanks and also sells LP tank exchanges.
When we owned our 31' Avion Le Grande, it had the original aluminum tanks. I had new valves/regulators installed at a cost of $35.00 each. This was 10 years ago. Who knows what the charge is now! When we purchased our 1st Shasta, I purchased NEW LP tanks from Lowes for $34.00 and change, about 5 years ago. The tank exchanges are an ugly gray color, but when I replace the empty tanks with new ones, I simply remove the shrink wrap "Blue Rhino" label and we are set.

Ditto on debdog above - how do I check before trying to "fire up" my stove? Also is there a way to remove rust on my stove/burners?

For safety, have an RV shop run a pressure test on the propane system.
