Brian- Did you ever get any information on the framing for the cab area. I am very interested in finding this out myself. From the design, it almost looks like the bunk would bend down toward the front with a young adult up there? Does the bunk extend out into the trailer area therefore offsetting the overhang....it must! Any idea how many can sleep in the bunk area or the weight that it will hold?

Hey Tom, Well I decided that I would just rip into it because it needs done anyway. so here's what I found. The cab-over is supported by the framing studs that run vertically from the roof down to the bunk and by half of the bunk that is cantilevered into the camper. The cantilevered bunk (plywood) is screwed into the horizontal frame (base plate) that runs around the perimeter of the cab-over and is attached to the vertical studs. There are several horizontal "joists" which run under the plywood and across the bunk from one side of the camper to the other, these also are attached to the base plates which are connected to the vertical studs. The most important of which is the "header" or top of the window frame. The plywood bunk is nailed down to all of the joists and header and screwed in through the skin from below. I will be posting pics and video of the rebuilding on tincanalley.ning.com shortly. I hope my description isn't too confusing, its actually kind of simple but not easy to describe... hope it helps. Did you find an astrodome?

I spent about 6 hours yesterday getting to the point where i could pull down the skin on the underside of the cab-over. First out was the front window..WHEW! the screws were so rusted that my phillips head just spun, I couldn't even use the hammer tapping screwdriver trick. Next I thought i would just drill out the heads. DON'T DO IT! Then I tried a screw extractor. couldn't get it to bite even after buying the recommended size. Finally, I was able to back them out with a pair of pliers. the heads deformed just enough to be able to get a grip on them...ok. Window out, drip edge off of the front and sides of cab-over. The underside skin came out pretty easy but i wish i had an extra pair of hands because its so flimsy. I cleaned out all the rotted wood around the perimeter and pulled out what was left of the window header and replaced it. photos to come.
