Hello everyone. We are new fulltimers traveling through the states in our 1965 Compact. I have started a blog for family and friends to share in our travels. Check it out at circusfire.wordpress.com/ I have a post that shows some great 'before and after' shots of our home.

Thank you so much Jim! It was like that Shasta was put there just for me. That town was empty but there it was! Chelsea

How neat!! I know of a number of folks (don't know them personally but stumbled upon their blogs) that full time. I think it's such a neat adventure. Reminds me of growing up on a boat as a child and all the places we would go. I'll be following your blog for sure. Have fun and look forward to reading about your travels.
How long do you plan on full-timing? Any challenges in regards to doing it in such a small trailer? Do you stay at free places like Flying J's, Walmart or Government land, etc.,?

Welcome to the VSTF!! Truly enjoyed the blog and your enthusiasm is very refreshing!! I think you will have a terrific adventure as full timers and the ex-militery connection is a great perk! Hope you got to stop off in Gulfport and spend a bit of time...if not, maybe I will be there or just up the road in Stone County the next time y'all pass through.

DaisyShasta: It's exciting to know you have read my blog! We have been following your blog for sometime now. We are fulltiming for an undetermined amount of time. It has been 25 days and we are very content with our living situation. Both Justin and I prefer small living with small amounts of "stuff." Our only major challenge has been the bathroom situation and the gamble on useful facilities at campgrounds. This challenge pales considerably to the challenges we faced while living in an urban loft in Market Square in Knoxville, TN, which was our last "real" address. We have not stayed at any free sites though we expect to in the future whenever possible. We keep a very tight budget and with our camp club membership and the ability to stay on Military sites we have not exceeded $22 a night with an average of $12 a night. Thank you so much for your interest and I am going to be posting more now that I have a bigger audience than my Mom:) Oh, another challenge: wifi. I have my mobile which helps but I usually end up sitting in McDonalds and Starbucks to use my pc.

Welcome. Hope to run into you one day on the road, we'll be traveling for 8 weeks this summer in colorado, wyoming, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. Especially love how you mounted the guitar and banjo. We have 2 guitars and I've been trying to figure out where to put them....will have them cased when traveling but once camped I want them out but also out of the way so we'll play them. We have a canned ham style... may do one of those slanted holders so both of them can fit on the side of the closet.

SafetyBruce: Thanks so much for the warm welcome! We did go right through Gulfport after staying at Keesler AFB in Biloxi and on our way to Grand Isle, LA. I will be updated our blog about our stay there soon and we may be back through before the end of fall.

GoneKayaking: We are making our way to Oregon which we hope to stay for a month or so. We love having our instruments displayed, it gives us motivation to practice (we are both beginners), and it's great to have visitors who do play show off their skills a little. We remove them while traveling, the slanted holder is a great idea, let me know if you come across one that works with the space. P.S. I love your blog and will be following Chelsea

Love your blog!! Great job on fixing up your Compact! I am working on my 69 compact right now and I love the full time bed in the back... I am thinking that is the direction we want to go with ours too (haha whenever we get to that point!).

Okay, all you Shasta owners heading for the Northwest, OR or WA let me know so I can come meet you and check out your trailers. I hope to have my new compact cleaned up and on the road by summertime. Can you tell me about this camping club you joined Chelsea?

Thanks Ladies for taking the time to check out my blog. We will be spending the summer up your way MindyRose, we should keep in touch and meet up. The camping club we joined is called Camp Club USA. Check out the website www.campclubusa.com/ and see if can be of use for you. We got our money back in 3 nights staying at one of the participating campgrounds. It also lists campgrounds that do not accept ccusa which is useful. The campgrounds are rated by Woodalls and we have not been disappointed yet. The directory gives great descriptions of all the campgrounds categorized by city per state. I like the maps of each state that show exactly where each featured campground is located. I need to make a correction on my blog, the membership is $49.99 a year, not $39.99.

The Club looks great....and we could sure use a discount on our road trip this summer with gas potentially hitting $5-6 per gallon.....but I see a bunch of the campgrounds don't offer the discount during July and August. I can understand why cause that's when they make 90% of their income, but it's a little disappointing.
