According to the info I have found on wing sizes my 1960 airflyte should have wings 42 inches long. I made a template and held it up to the side of the trailer. There is an impression in the siding of the trailer showing the outline of the wing. The template is about 3 inches too short. It does not match the outline on the trailer. Could the wings have been longer?

donno, according to this web site 42 inches were the largest, but the info here was gathered from several sources, so it might not be 100% accurate, the other possibility was someone had a set of larger home made wings on your camper for a while. on a side note my camper had wings, but there is no impression on the sides, I thought they set off the side by 1/2, but some may have been mounted flush, I'm new to these campers, still learning. www.freewebs.com/kc8jwa/wings.htm

FWIW, I made some wood templates exactly as prescribed in that website linked above and it was virtually a perfect match to the siding impressions, both sides, on my '59 which also uses the 42" wing.
