I thought that I had seen a thread asking for help with rodent deterrent, but I can't find it. So, here's a new thread. I just got this information in an email from an RV company. I thought it was worth sharing. I have no experience with the product, nor have I ever heard of it. Just hoping it might be of use. Beware, it is long.
Unless you are in a select group such as research scientist, chances are you don't find much value in mice. Even then, you probably have a different level of appreciation should they invade your RV.
Over the years, we have made a lot of repairs for damage caused by mice seeking food and refuge in RVs. At the very least, they eat your food and leave droppings as a token of their appreciation. In the more severe cases, they find their way into spaces where only a mouse can fit and go about chewing through vital wires, fabric, plastic water lines, and anything else that gets in their way. In those cases, the cost of repairs can run into the hundreds of dollars and in extreme cases into the thousands.
Though we have not experienced any first hand cases at our facility, there have been over fifty documented cases of Hantavirus in California. And, the greatest number of cases nationwide are concentrated in the southwestern United States. Hantavirus is often fatal and is transmitted through dried mouse droppings. Any time you are cleaning up after an invasion, special precautions need to be taken to avoid inhaling the dust that results from the dried mouse droppings.
No matter how you slice it, nothing good can come from mice finding their way into your RV. And, until now, we had no real solutions. They still haven't cured the common cold, but, it looks as though we may finally be able to gain the upper hand against mice invading RVs. The answer is RV Mouse Free - a recently patented product designed specifically to combat the problem of mice in your RV.
Mouse Free is non-toxic and has no solvents, poisons, or offensive odors. It is harmless to pets and children. It relies on a high concentration of menthol, which is upsetting to the respiratory tract of mice. For continuous protection, it is applied annually to the entire undercarriage of your RV. And, though it isn't designed for insects such as ants, it repels them too.
The manufacturer points out that this product does nothing to prevent crafty mice that drop from trees onto the roof of your RV and find their way in from the top. It also does nothing to stop a mouse from walking up your shore cord, water hose, or anything leaning against the RV. If there is access when they reach the coach via one of these routes, they will get in. But, the most common problem is an attack via the under carriage. It will stop them from that path.
The product can be customer-applied if you choose or by an RV service center such as Norm's RV. For the do-it-yourself customer, you will need to purchase the spray gun intended specifically for dispersing this product and you will need an air compressor to propel it.
