I agree the details can be worked out closer to our date but it would be nice to get input now as this gathering belongs to all of us and will be what we all make of it.
I don't recall seeing grills at each site but we always bring a grill with us when we camp and I just assumed we'd be grilling out for our Saturday night.
As I said before, the sites are laid out in such a way that there is plenty of space, that is not the road, for us to actually gather at a central location and bring our chairs, grills etc and this is what my head imagined.

Well, I have a Weber Q-grill that runs off of a 30lb camper propane bottle, and a converted 55 gal drum (that was used for Honey, not oil products) that is a smoker. I can easily bring both. We use the smoker for Boston Butt, and Turkey/Chicken. The grill is good for potatoes/corn/blah blah..
I will plan on bringing both of these, and if we plan a dinner for Sat night, I will plan on firing up the smoker early on Sat morning to give meats a real good chance to do their thing. It has two racks, as big around as a 55 gal drum to place things on. And a temp gauge. It hovers around 225-235 degrees.

Sounds awesome flyingham, you are speaking our language! Clayton is really into barbecue as well, he just smoked a whole fresh picnic (shoulder) earlier this week. Maybe you two could come up with some tasty ideas for that weekend. Kat

Not that I'm trying to stop the train but for me it will be a train wreck and I have to chime in...smoking a grill kills me, I'm allergic to smoke, it will make me sick for weeks and other than being stuck in the camper all day I don't know how I'd be able to avoid it. (I'm forced indoors during my favorite time of year because people burn leaves and it doesn't matter that they are blocks away)

Thanks flyingham...I promise I won't be any more of a drag on our gathering. And don't misunderstand, using a grill is great and campfires are fine too as they both generally have short-lived smoke producing times and that I can avoid.

Believe me, I'm all too familiar with such scenarios and unfortunately it is a possibility. It's also why I prefer boondocking but if push-comes-to-shove then I won't have a choice and we'll have to leave. I'm especially hoping that the universe will be on my side and that it won't happen as it will ruin more than just the weekend shasta camping for me...

well the good thing about camping in the fall is most the green stuff is gone. wet stuff maybe but the green should be gone, still some put the ole yule log on there and leave it all day smoldering. maybe being on the lake we will have a steady breeze AWAY from your site

I'm glad you'll be joining us shamlin but disappointed you'll be further away since 2 of 'our' sites were scooped by unknowns. I've posted a pic of the 2 sections that vintage owners are going to be...86-92 is the shasta section (now full) and kristi set up the other section , 93-101, for the airstream owners and other shasta owners who missed out on the original section. Shamlin, Let us know your estimated time of arrival. I will get the word out to other campers in your area, to show up with lanterns and flashlights at site 97 to help guide you into your space. We did that at the last Rally for late arrivals and it worked out great. Kristi

I just checked the availability map at McKinney and site 100 is the only site left in the 93-101 loop. Who's going to grab it? Sites 93, 95, 96, 97, are all Shasta reservations. There are still plenty of sites in loop 105-117 if there are more folks who want to join in.

Just booked spot #100. I'm so excited/nervous. This will be my first camping trip ever. The Shasta won't be done but will hopefully be good enough to camp in :-)

Hello Everyone, The gathering date (Nov 5th) for our Vintage Shasta Trailer Forum members is drawing close. (Certainly too close for our trailer to be finished!) Even though I started this camping gathering I had not intended to be its formal organizer as I had hoped that all the forum members would add their input and ideas for what they hoped to get out of it. Some people have contacted me saying they'd like this to be more of a meet and great, an easy-going sharing of a meal or two and a trailer tour. Beyond that the idea was to camp (imagine that! haha). So it's time for anyone else to contact me at Harrison429@comcast.net with input regarding our plans. In the meantime, I thought to make signs for all the Vintage Shasta Trailer Forum members to post outside of their campsites. Somewhat like this: Forum Member: HARRISON429 Trailer / Trailer Name: 1963 Shasta Compact Owners: BILL AND ROBIN of MARIETTA, GA Please send all your information to me at harrison429@comcast.net and anything else you'd like on your sign. I'll put them in sheet protectors so you'll just need a way to display it. This way we'll be able to recognize the people we've been reading about! It's also time to start working on some details of our gathering like what time we want to gather for our Vintage Shasta Trailer Forum meal on Saturday...lunch, dinner or somewhere in between. I have no idea what days people are showing up or what time they'll be leaving (assumed on Sunday) so keep in mind we certainly don't want to start too late if people will have to leave early on Sunday to drive back home. (An extra special welcome to all you far-a-way members! ) I'm sure we're all expecting to spend just a little time to show off our trailers in person, it will certainly be a change from all the online viewing we've been doing! Should we do that Saturday morning, say around 10? Everyone should be settled in from the night before and up by then, right? After that we can have some time to regroup before our shared meal later in the day. Lastly, it was suggested that we might have a Sunday gathering for breakfast/brunch before we all head out so please give your input on that too. Again, please contact me at Harrison429@comcast.net so I can coordinate all the Vintage Shasta Trailer Forum members stretched across the 2 camping sections. Thanks...I'm looking forward to our time together. Robin

Again, I'm so excited. I'm up for any plans. I will arrive around 4pm on Friday and don't have to leave early on Sunday.

With a 4pm check-in and some people arriving even later, anything on Friday evening might not be possible. However, on Saturday morning about 10 am, you can expect us to be outside your camper door and wanting a tour! What we did at Devil's Fork last month was to leave our camper door propped open and go on the Parade of Trailers. People were welcome to check out our camper while we were gone, and if they stopped by when we were there, they got the guided tour. I think that a Saturday evening pot-luck dinner would be good.

Thinking about the VSTF dinner for Saturday... it'd be good to get a head count of how many of us are planning to attend. If everyone plans on contributing a dish, knowing how many people to cook for would be helpful! And we ought to get a list going of who's bringing what so we don't end up bringing the same thing.
Also let's think about setting the time. How does 5:30 or 6 pm sound to you guys? It seems to me that if we planned it somewhat early, we'd still have some daylight left and the local VSTF members coming for the day could participate. Kat

On Friday evening, an appetizer Meet and Greet social at 6:00 PM at site 101 is planned for any Shasta members who want to come. Lynetta and Brian have offered their 59 Airstream's site for a gathering place. Bring a finger food appetizer to share, a chair and a flashlight or lantern. As it gets dark we will help guide late comers into their campsites with our flashlights.

We are new members and will be in site #94. Just got our first Shasta a few weeks ago and then found the thread about the campout. We are in for all the activities, can't wait! We will be arriving Thursday evening and leaving Sunday.

How many people will be bringing pets? I'm undecided as this will be the first trip for my 9 month old Saint Bernard. I don't want her to be a problem for other people.

We won't be bringing our Lab; she gets too nervous when there is a lot of people around. Don't think the old gal could handle all the activity next month.
