well...it is turning out to be wayyyy more difficult than I imagined to get tires and wheels for my SOB. The scenario.....We got it with three diff. rims. Two original looking vintage 15" 6 lug 5 1/2 with clips, one pretty old vintage no clips, and one car tire rim,lol The problem, the three vintage rims appear to be offset(they have plenty of clearance behind tire towars the inside of well. The newer car rim with no offset is pretty close behind tire to well. Which is a major bummer because ALL of the newer vintage type rims in this size have NO offset. anyone know exactly how close is too close for clearance behind the tire? I would love to just get the wheels from VTS and be doe with it. Now onto the next obstacle. I alreay know I don't want the loadstar or Carlise AKA China bombs or the Goodyear Marathons due to all the complaints of blowing etc. etc. So I had FINALLY decided to go with the Maxxis st 8008 205 75 15's. It cuurently has diff. radial car tires, thanks to previous owner. BUT....a vintage supplier informed me that most older trailers had 700 15 lt tires which are taller. What? So I don't see how being that my tire well has 29 inch clearance. Any opinions? I'm hoping someone will say just get the 15 conventional rims off of VTS and 205 75 15 Maxxis and I'll have enough back clearnce with the no offset and life will be grand and I can get on to the fun stuff like painting decorating etc. Any input would be appreciated. Oh and one more thing the Maxxis are 6 ply, is that enough stiffness for sway with close clearance?

well a simple solution is if the wheel with no offset will fit and does not hit the back of the wheel well, if you have,,, I would say 3/8 to a 1/2 inch of clearance you would be fine. another option is just throw on some quarter inch wheel spacers. any wider of a spacer and you would probably need longer studs, but I'll bet you could use the stock studs with a 1/4 inch spacer. (wheel spacers just mount between the wheel and axle which pushes the wheel and tire outward a 1/4 inch or however thick the spacer is.) lots of drag racers run spacers because of trying to get the wheel centered perfect so you can can fit the widest tire possible under your car. I ran a set on my S-10 since I was using corvette ZO6 wheels that had to much backspacing. you can get them through jegs or summit, here you go www.jegs.com/i/Mr.+Gasket/720/2376/10002/-1
