Went to pull tires off to inspect wheel bearings and ran into a problem. Had to let air out of tires to get them out of wheel well and still had to force them. They are H78-15's. Quite old and want to replace them anyway. The rims appear to be as old (67) as the rest of the trailer. Only 7 incnches between hub and body so what size tire should I get. A 75 series ? Can't fit new rims AND tires into budget right now.

Found a chart that shows a 175 series being only 7 inches wide. What are you guys using ? The extra wide tires that were on it explain some of the wood/wheel well damage as they were forced in.

Mine are hard to get out unless I have just the right angle, and letting air out does help. Not sure about your tire sizes, mine is a 56.

Did you jack up under the axle or under the frame (allowing the suspension to hang)?

Under the frame. Lots of previous damage to wheel wells from tires being forced in and out. Found some 175-65-15's at a good price. They might be OK. A little shorter but narrow enough I think. The local Northern tool has some mounted 13 and 14 inch combos too. Will take a run to Tratcor supply in the morning and check them out, as I have to have this thing on the road by the 6th for a 700 mile round trip.

Yeah, sounds like the tire is too big.
Be sure to get "ST" trailer tires.

Ended up going with some 8.00-13's They actually look pretty good. Got them at local trailler shop. Came to find out that I was lucky to get the the thing home (150 Miles) when I bought it. Right side had no cotter pin in axle and only the grease and rotation direction kept the very loose nut on. Left side inner bearing was broken to pieces and very dry. The owner assured me it had been surviced and was ready for the road.

If you google that size it is about a 225/75/15.
My Astrodome has that same size tire an it fits tightly as long as I jack from the frame. The larger more common tires are cheaper. That's probably why the PO put them on.

Sorry, should have been clearer. I was referring to the H78-15 that they started with and what size that crosses over to.
