Very Good!
I asked very specifically about the new RV building when the portable came down. Once the permit is signed off, there's nothing the neighbor can do. Of course you can't add to it but here in Washington, it's legal to install siding after the final.
Fooey on nasty neighbors.

So its been about a month, camper has been out of the weather since (except for heavy fog days when it just floats under the roof). I have not heard anything from anyone about it since it was signed off on.
I did hitch it up last weekend just to be certain it cleared the wood i added to the front. all my calculations told me it would but didnt want to wait till the day of the next trip only to find out that it was too tall by .5"
Have had some 35+mph wind recently and it doesnt budge, doesnt sway, wiggle, nothing. its there good.
still intend to enclose the entire thing at some point, i know now that ill need a permit for that as an "alteration".
i noticed that when i sealed part of the trim and then trimmed the excess trempro that it must have gotten too thin after a couple road trips and separated. the butyl tape should still keep the water out but im going to reseal all that again once we get a warm dry day. just another reason i support covering the trailers 100%, i dont inspect it every day, small leaks can sit and rot for weeks/months at a time in the winter and summer when the trailer is not in use.
at least the carport protects it from that.
very happy with it.

SOOOOOOOOO.................. the day i posted my update (2-16) i got home to find a handwritten note in my mailbox that said "Please finish painting your house". I was pretty pissed. Again with the coward neighbors and just in general with the fact that someone even cares what i do on my own property (with the laws). Long story, bought house, ugly color, bought paint. painted 95% of house, most with 2 coats, never fully finished trim, have to rent ladder to reach, got hot, stopped painting, realized A/C couldnt get the house below 90s in the summer, whoa! dark green way hotter than expected. Bought new paint, hurt back, mostly out of commision the rest of the year as far as any physical labor (still hurts today and its been over a year now). My chimney was pretty rotted so we replaced all the wood on it with hardiplank board, its never been painted, so its still the original primer yellow color. So the house has been sitting with some various colors on it but from the street its "mostly" done looking. I have had full intentions of finishing it, but cant afford to pay someone and really find alot better things to do with my time than paint the house. Trust me there are worse houses in my neighborhood. So thinking this was likely the same person that called code enforcement i went inside (after deciding not to paint something large and likely very bad on the front of my house in red spray paint because lets face it... i really dont care). I looked up public records request and submitted one for my property requesting who complained in late Dec. They replied and it turns out it was exactly who i thought it was. Doesnt change anything, in my gut i figured it was them. Not going to confront them or say anything because i think that will only make things worse and drag it out. Nice to know who your living around though, good piece of information to have. Did their note help? a little. I started with painting the shastaport (didnt get to finish because rain was moving in). Then went on to paint the things on my house that do bother me. My garage door was painted in a tan color, one coat, and i had painted the edges of all the glass. this has always bothered me but never to the point where i wanted to do something about it. Decided now was the time. Repainted the door with 2 coats of the new color (previously unseen from the street) and trimmed out the glass, came out great. The new color will be a cucumber green with dark green trim (at least thats the plan). Then i went to the front of the house and with spray paint painted about 25% of a window frame (that had been painted tan to color match and see how it would look) spraypainted that back white so it at least matched the old color. Next i went to the other side of the house. When i moved in the porch was wrapped with lattice (for the record i hate lattice but in this case if it were not there i really think it would look worse). When i moved in i took out a panel of lattice and replaced it installing a door (so i can get under the porch) came out great i just never finished painting it. I started painting it white to match, if i remember correctly it got dark and i stopped, never went back to finish it. so it was half raw wood, half painted white. so i got out there with my trusty cans of spraypaint and finished that. looks a ton better. Did the note prompt me to paint those things? yes. but they had been on my list a while now. Part of the reason i dont paint is winter is too cold, summer is too hot, spring and fall are taken up camping and doing fun stuff. So that doesnt leave much time. I figure if they want me to paint the house they should come help or chip in to pay someone to to it. I half thought of painting it pepto pink and put a sign on the front that says done (wife says no pink house )) Whats the point of this story? Venting mostly. Guess there isnt a code against a half painted house

Don't know what compells people to act like that. Nothing better to do than fuss about other peoples property. Every neighborhood has at least one of these holier-than-thou types and you were the unlucky target.

We're sorry that happened to you, and we agree, if they were so hot for you to get it done, they were perfectly withn their rights to offer a hand to get it done. We live on a hill, the neighbor below us is a nice guy, but not very motivated to take care of his house. It's not too bad, but needs repair and upkeep. We know he doesn't have a lot of money, so when he mentioned that his roof was starting to leak and he wanted to re-coat it (was torched-on black tar), we offered to help him pay for top of the line coating. We have 35 feet of windows that overlook a lovely view, and his roof, so it would have been worth it from an aesthetic point for us to help him buy the good stuff. He said he'd think about it. A couple weeks later, we came home after dark, and wondered why there was snow on his roof. Turns out, he had gone out and got the least expensive coating and put it on while we were gone that day. It is bright white and when the sun's out, we now have to wear sunglasses in our own living room or keep the shades closed to deal with the reflection. The rotten thing is that when we're ready to sell our house, his screaming white coating is going to cost us far more in decreased value than had he let us help him do it right.
So, hopefully, we don't seem like the "holier than thou" types. We don't complain about his habit of mowing his lawn twice a year whether it needs it or not, nor the weeds that go to seed every summer. But those things don't require us to wear sunglasses in our own house.
We are very grateful to our neighbors for putting up with the mess in our driveway for more than a year while we put Hamlet back together. We tried to keep it as neat as possible, but there was always a pile of something out there. We had a couple people make snarky comments, but once we were done, they all said that he was gorgeous and that the mess had been worth it just for them to peek inside.

Hamlet: you are a good neighbor in offering to help with the roof. Wonder why he didn't take you up on the offer. Watch and next time he leaves for a weekend, sneak down there and coat the roof black!

offspringin- We have actually had that conversation and are trying to figure out if we could pull it off. It's only the back side of the roof that is coated, so we could do it and he'd never know.

We had a neighbor like that once. We were Renovating a 100+ year old house and one of the projects was a new bathroom. I took the toilet out and put it just off the porch outside. The got to work on the new floor and replacin it wiht a new toilet. Within an hour the neighbor said to my wife " you arent going to leave that toilet there are you?" . I didn't ,I moved it to the front porch facing the road and filled to bowl with fake bright red plastic flowers!!!. About a week later it disappeared in the middle of the night!!!!
Made me laugh hysterically. My wife wasn't that impressed with my response but she didn't like the neighbor either so it was a wash.

LOl!! i had that thought. It was about to rain and the dogs run mounts to that pole (and they were out at the time). I have some to do on the middle post, rear post, rear 45degree and side 45 degree also the left side (facing my house) needs more attention. Kinda thought it would be funny to paint that first instead of focusing on the house (it needed it anyway since it was raw wood) A couple of other neighbors have said it would be nice to see it done but its my property and who are they to say when its done. I think they also think the note was just a nasty way to deal with it. Come see me in person, i live nearby and dont bite.....

HA I was a SGT on the Police Department at the time!!!!!!. I figured I had made my point though. The "Flower Pot" or one just like it made the rounds around town for a while. At the local ballfield for a few days ,on top of a french fry trailer, under the sign for the local race track. It made me laugh evertime I saw it and I bet it ticked off the neighbor evertime they saw it around town!!!!. Some people just dont have a sense of humor!!
I lived in a neighborhood where neighbors had attorneys to deal with each other. Don't live there anymore!!!!Needless to say there were no neighborhood cookouts.

Shasta port looks great!
It was all I could do to keep from installing bright copper metal on the neighbot's side when I built the RV shelter... or have my talented friend paint Graffiti all over that wall. Sorry for your troubles. I would figure out something.
A toilet with fake flowers is good. Very good...

Or paint the remaining posts psychedelic pink or purple. Or hang really obnoxious fabric all around it (Find some godawful ancient curtains or tablecloth at a thrift store) to "protect" the trailer. Yup, some people don't have a sense of humor at all. When we were restoring our little 1939 bungalow, the toilet was in the backyard overlooking a busy street. My wild and wonderful brother-in-law planted himself on it and waved to all the passing cars. Love that guy!

Shredded blue tarps would make good "curtains" for the Shasta port... Tacky!

[/IMG]
I thought I was going to store my camper in the garage or carport but it will not fit in either, so it looks like I am going to build something like you built. Where did you get the 4 x4 brackets? Thanks
