Is there a way to remove the pitting on my Shasta emblem? Polishing didn't do it. Can it be saved or is it a lost cause? Any tips or tricks out there? Attachments:

It is never a lost cause. I would say that the chrome itself is a lost cause. You could try to polish it up but the metal underneath is what is pitting. You can see in the other thread how mine is just starting to the pitting but polished up ok. The metal is pot metal just like grab Bargman Spring-A-Grab handles and Bargman Trail-Lite lights. Which on my trailer are in the same condition as your script badge. If you can't get it to shine up well then you could paint it or have it rechromed. I'm not sure how the chrome shop would want to even out the surface before chroming it. I guess they would have to tell you how they do it. The other option is to paint it. I am doing this right now on my Spring-A-Grab handle which was pitted like your badge. First remove all of the chrome and even the surface with sand paper. Spray it with a self etching primer. Then you can use something like Bondo's spot putty to smooth out the surface. www.ronshomeandhardware.com/4-5OZ-Glazin-Spot-Putty-p/827375.htm?click=1014&source=googlepsThen use a sandable primer to even it out. Then you can spray it with whatever color you want. I am using a Duplicolor Chrome. I will be finishing up this project if it EVER STOPS RAINING and will be posting pictures soon. Whatever you do... don't chuck it or anything silly like that. Someone will want it. Hope this helps. Brian

On my script emblem and other pitted pot metal parts I found that any sanding would cut through what was left of the chrome showing some of the copper plating underneath and doesn't look so great.
What I've found is that using metal polish (Blue Magic) with a toothbrush works pretty well, but has to be re-done at least once a season. I like the look of the black paint fill by dawgpound and wonder if a dark grey paint fill might look pretty good also.

Not really...with the sanding at least. I've used a wire wheel on it to get it smooth and I think that I'll paint it "chrome". I ended up buying an emblem from someone parting out their Shasta and its in great condition, so that's the one I will use on my camper. I'll have the other one for backup.

well I am in the same boat, I just removed mine to polish it and it is pretty bad, you could paint it, like the ones below, It doesnt look as bad as I thought it would, I was dead set against painting but these are OK. and this guy sells the reproduction ones, I guess according to his web site. but it looks like he is actually just refurbishing and painting the stock ones. you could order a new set from him and have them chromed. here is his webpage, (scroll to bottom) www.onemorefortheroad.net/photo6.html

Has anyone checked on having the emblems and handles re-chromed?? Would like to try that but wondered if a shop would even take that small of a project on?!?!
