We just picked up a '62 airflyte last week and there is no refrigerator in it. The previous owner modified that whole cabinet area for storage only. We would like to get a propane/electric unit in there but don't know what size to get and I would love to see a picture of the original layout and dimentions of that cabinet. As we restore this we want it to look as authentic as possible. Also, any good sources in the midwest? We are in northern Illinois.

Do you have pictures of the existing cabinet? I think my Deluxe pictures might help you. There are only a few sizes available in new propane/electric refrigerators that will fit. I believe mine was limited to 42 inches or similar. Here's a link to PPL: www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-refrigerator-parts-1.htm Just click on the compact sized fridges and check out the dimensions. You'll need a certain amount of clearance at the back and venting top and bottom. The manuals will give you that. Any RV store should be able to order the fridge you choose. They are never cheap. Also, used refers are usually on their last legs and can be very spendy to repair IF you can get parts. Beware.

The previous owner removed the fridge and modified the cabinet to make the whole unit storage. I don't know what the original set up was and what size or color the fridge (icebox) was to look for. I will take pictures and try to get them posted. Thank you for your help

Make sure whatever you buy will fit through the door.

Ron is right! Sometimes the kitchen window will allow you to squeeze a new fridge thru...

I am glad you all pointed out about fitting it through the door! What size seems to be the 'right' size to get? We are also trying to decide between a 2 way and a 3 way. Any suggestions?

Don't bother with the 3 way. 12 volt is for maintenance on the road... won't keep stuff cold for long and can drain batteries quickly.
Measure your door, including the ability to remove the wood trim. The widest is what will fit. Most Shasta doors are too narrow for a fridge. I figured out on my Deluxe that the kitchen window was "just" big enough. I'll post a pix of the kitchen area.

Hello! Not sure where you are located. But we have a '62 that we are restoring. We removed the fridge and are using an icebox. So if you are interested in it, or photos of how ours was I can send them to you. Just let me know.
