Well, I'd sure like to know where the 5 people sleep. They'd have to be pretty little... and skinny, too.

If you can find the information that would be great. I just measured my 56 again, definitely 6'6" wide with a 12 box (at it's widest) and then the tongue, which actually comes to less than 14'8" as indicated in the VSTF database section.
I'd be happy to be wrong. If we have the same trailer, it's not the rarer of the two. Have seen a bunch of these.

Posted the question on the Vintage trailer treasures yahoo group to see if Juergen Eichenmuller can answer. If anyone knows, he will. Sure would love to know!
I just went and measured my box is 12'2" x 6'6" (original was probably 12'4" or so...had to shave off the back a bit during rebuild). Tongue is 28" so total length is 14'6" to 14"8 which makes mine a 1500.
Length refers to total length including tongue, I believe. So with a 13'8" total length on the 1400 that would be about 11ft 4" box.
PS VikX: we have slept 2 on the dinette during a rain storm, like sharing a twin bed....better hope that your partner doesn't have sharp elbows, or active dreams. Then one up in the hammock. I'd say it's really 3-4 (if you include the hammock).

I sent an email to Juergen Eichenmueller the undisputed king of vintage trailer info. Here is his response. So if you measure you should get your answer as to which it is.
"Hi:
Yours is the 1500. The 1956 1500 model (according to mfg’s specs) is exactly 14’8” overall length. The 1400 is exactly 13’8” overall length. Both models are 6’6” wides.
They are basically the same but the one is just one foot shorter.
Hope this helps!
Juergen"

I like the handle light....nice touch. Did you have the bracket for the propane bottle and battery made custom or adapt a two bottle propane holder?

Bracket was custom made. We tried the two bottle but this particular battery box wouldn't fit as well. Fun to do either way...

We'll have to have a 50's 1500 reunion with all of these. VikX now that you will have become an expert on this model I may have to come up to Bellingham for a little more resto.

I should say, in all fairness, that Sundance is not a *restoration*... She is such amazing condition and so clean. All she needed was systems and the dreaded window seals... The paneling is fine! Oh, and a butt repair: the PO had added a steel plate and skid bars to the back. We removed those and made her look Purty again...

Skid bars in the back? How does one pop a wheelie with a Shasta?

Many canned ham Shastas are quite low to the ground. They often drag when going into driveways or turning on a slope. I believe the PO was trying to protect his baby. Every inch of Sundance shows his love.
The skid bars were very innovative... they were actually kind of spring loaded; two flat bars using spacer washers. Unfortunately, the steel skid plate at the back damaged the aluminum skin (fixed now). There are a lot of "extra" shelves, nooks and crannies in Sundance. The PO must have been a real fix it nut.
Cowcharge, you can come to our 1500 rally, too. We'll figure out a place to meet when the time comes and all will be welcome!

Yes, I do. Door handles of that type have a molded place for a bulb placement. You have to fabricate a little strap to hold the socket in place. It's fairly easy, just a single wire bulb socket, a strap and a ground.
