We are new to the Shasta and have been working on our 64 Asrodome. Long story short, after a jb weld fix, the wind blew the baggage door open then blew it right off. . It's a simple yet complicated hinge contraption that our local sheet metal guy wasn't able to replicate. Can this door be fixed? Anyone know how to replicate that funky hinge? Or has anyone had to replace with something using standard modern hinges? Any help is greatly appreciated. Heather

I also have a 64 Astrodome that I just finished the restoration on (my blog shown below) THe door is a rolled hinge... meaning they roll the edge of the aluminum on the door in a tight circle and the reciever is a larger rolled C shape for that circle to slide into. In order to ger the door in you have to bed the tab at one end and slide the circle down into the C shape...
Its hard to remake, but if you could post some pictures of the damage I might be able to give you some advice. I do alot of work with aluminum and make wings for shastas and might be able to help.
Welcome and good luck with your Dome!

Thank you for responding! I stalk your blog frequently for ideas. Beautiful trailer - I love it. Ours is a money pit - wish we knew more when we looked at it, but we're in it for the long haul so I'll keep going until it bursts into flames. I am new to posting and not sure if I uploaded pictures correctly but here's my attempt. The unpainted aluminum part is what the sheet metal guy added today but when we tried to slide it into the casing/hinge on the trailer, that piece ripped off as well. The single piece in the picture is what came off the trailer. Not knowing what the attachments will come out like, I may post twice... Thanks again! Heather Attachments:
