Does anyone know how to remove the flat top roof vent from my 64 Astrodome? With the vent cap opened up I can sortof get to the screws which secure the flange to the roof but removing the vent cap or disassembling would make it much easier to get at stubborn screws. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is a pic of the vent: Attachments:

Well, from the two examples of that particular vent that I've seen on here lately, a quick spin down the road ought to do it. But in case it doesn't, there looks to be a helpful hint on this thread: www.airforums.com/forums/f455/anatomy-repair-of-ledeux-openers-for-the-hehr-roof-vent-16271.html"The lifter is connected to the bracket with a small pinch pin on each side of the lifter. Its sort of like a gimble for a maritime compass. Slip a small screw driver between the lifter and the bracket, twist and pull gently. The lifter should separate from the bracket, Do that on both sides. Then lift the entire vent cover, with lifters attached, up and turn sideways to bring down through the vent opening at a diagonal." If this is the same kind of vent anyway, mine have the crank handles...

The knobs are held on the square shaft with a spring loaded captive ball. Using a small punch, compress the ball while pulling down on the knob. Once you have the knobs off the screen will fall off and you will have acess to the vent lifters. You may have to spray some penatrant on the shaft and ball to work the knob off.
