OK, first of all forgive my ignorance if this is a stupid question. I noticed the pilot on the oven is always emitting enough gas to stay lit so I keep it lit in the oven when I have the gas on. On a camp out my Dad joined us with his new RV and I told him about this. He said it should not be that way. When the oven and furnace knobs are "OFF" they should not even have gas to the pilot. I assumed that is how these old trailers are but please let me know if I have some problem with the oven that I need to have looked at. My Dad said his new Rv has a safety on his furnace and oven that keeps that from happening. I tested my furnace and the pilot goes out and no gas is emitted when the knob is in the off position. The oven pilot is always emitting gas though.
My questions are. Is it normal to have the oven pilot running all the time when the gas is on at the tank?
If I don't light the pilot, is it enough gas to be a safety issue or is it vented enough?

Hi Shastagrey,
It is not normal for the pilot to be on all the time. Your stove should have an on/off valve or the main oven control to shut all gas to the pilot.
Lift the stove top. The on/off pilot valve will be there.
Yes, this is dangerous. Propane can hoover near the floor and build up! Don't take a chance...

So, this valve shuts off the oven only allowing the stove top to be used? I am so glad I was keeping the stove pilot lit when the gas was on. Thank you!

Yup. The valve shuts the oven down. Handy. VK
