Hey folks, We sold a camper last summer to a nice couple who can't register the camper because somebody put a line through my name on the back of the title which renders the title null and void. I have made many futile attempts to contact the person who's name appears on the title. This person for some reason is not getting back to me. The persons who we sold the camper to are stuck with a trailer that they can't use. unless they go through a very expensive process by posting bond to get a new title. 5,000 dollars to be exact. Is there any other solution to this nightmare? Thanks! frustrated and willing to help.-Mark

Hello. Well, that certainly is a sad situation for the people that bought your camper. The answer to your question isn't an easy one though. Partly it depends on the state. Are you and the buyer both in the same state? Was the trailer registered at the time of sale? Many times if the trailer is registered when sold, then even without a title, it's easier to get a new title in some states. So without knowing that, I can't be of much assistance.
I would think that you could offer a notarized statement saying that it is your signature on the back of the title. Sometimes it takes a little persistence to get the right person at the DMV.

Ditto on the notarized statement, and I would question why you wouldn't be able to simply put your signature or initial above the crossed-out signature to suffice -- ditto again, on trying another DMV (less disgruntled) employee.

Why can't you apply for a duplicate title sense the problem is with your name having a line through it. I guess what I'm saying is there is more to the story I'm not getting here. Where on the back is your signature with a line through it? Is it where you signed over for transfer to new owner? Did the current owner try to "Jump Title" by selling again without putting it in his name, hence the line through yours? Did anyone at anytime try to transfer without their name on it? Why would you have to get hold of the person whose name appears on the title??? What state are you in and what state did it go to? It should be as simple as you initialing the line in front of your DMV rep. More info, please advise, or buy a dozen Duncan and have a seat after taking a number. Offer the Duncan when you come into the DMV. It always helps to lube the gears that work. Soup

Hello again folks. Thank you so much for the reply. Yes we are in the same state, and no the person who I sold the trailer to is not trying to sell it just simply register the camper. Perhaps that indeed he did encounter a disgruntled employee because he told me that the employee was happy to deliver the bad news to him which was the option of posting a 5000 dollar bond. I have been trying to contact the person on the title via facebook explaining my situation but have not received any response after many attempts to contact. I can tell that my messages have been read but still no reply. I guess I have to go back down to DMV and try again. My signature is in the buyers section but somebody crossed it out.
