I finally found what I believe is a 1972. Can I get some information? Vin # says P23790. I purchased her last week, and in looking at pictures am now getting confused. The registration states 1972. The metal shasta logo to the right of the door has 16 SC under it. It looks like the 1400 that I see on other threads. Even though there aren't any wings, it does have the holes where they were. Any help is appreciated. Rebecca Attachments:

Also, would the wings be the same for this model as the Shasta Compact?

So do you believe it is a '73 instead of the stated '72 on the registration?

Is it possible that it was built in '72 and sold in '73, thus VINed in '73? Also, based on the picture, would you say it is a 1400? And where was it built? All of a sudden this site makes me have tons of questions.... Great resource for me. I bought it for my birthday, since it was a "72" (like me)

Do you have pictures of the inside. I am curious to see how close your inside is to mine.

The key difference between the 1400 and the 16SC is the length of the body. Yours is definitely the 16SC, looks identical to mine; the window placements and sizes, the vents and the stone guard on the front, and the paint colors. The vent on the side just to the rear of the door is for the furnace. It is housed inside a cupboard that is on your left just as you step inside the door. That would not be present in the 1400. The furnace is housed on the opposite side of the camper in the 1400. The distance between the door frame and the rear side windows is shorter in the 1400 than the 16SC. Also the 1400 was not equipped with the bathroom in it, just a closet. Otherwise the kitchen layout and dinette and sofa would be the same.
Congrats on the extra 2 feet!

Chris, Thanks a bunch. This answers the rest of my questions on the identity, etc. I can't wait to get started. Are all the paint schemes the white and tan?

Most of the early '70's were the gold stripe pattern. I took off some tar sealant from the roof, and the emblems, etc. when I stripped mine down, and found the original color of the body paint to be close to Rustoleum "almond". Here all the time I thought it was supposed to be white...The striping originally was gold anodized aluminum. I have found a nice gold that works. Valspar makes it, it is "brilliant metal" and the cap color looks like gold jewelry. It dries out on the aluminum to a little less of a "brilliant" finish and looks great in my opinion. It is supposed to be interior paint however, so I am going to try clear-coating it to protect it. That is not to say it can't be customized. Any color you like. I was thinking of doing mine "chrome"...but decided I want to go back to original colors. As to the wings, I believe this era Compacts, 1400, and 16SC all had the same size of wings, they were the 7" X 27". I have said it before and I'll say it again, if you are considering adding wings to it, then check here first: vintageshasta.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wings&action=display&thread=3639and: vintageshasta.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wings&action=display&thread=4508Oh and, photos are a "must have" here. We are a friendly bunch, but we are a bunch of serious voyeurs ... the reason being is that we can't own them all, but we do want to see them all.....

I can see why... I'd have a yard full. Mine had wings, judging from the screw holes, but didn't come with the wings. I'll start searching now. Pictures to come. I'm out of town working and need to get back to take some. Thanks for all the help. I have the original awning which is creamy and gold.

I had the original awning. It was almost the only thing that I had with it that was original. It got left in a pile in the storage building and the mice got to it. I hate mice.....

Mine also has the original awning. It is in perfect condition and looks identical to yours. I promise I'll get pictures up. Thanks for the link, I see what you mean with the bathroom and heater. Otherwise, it's identical. Thanks again.
